Atypical 1.08

The Silencing Properties of Snow

Lots of heartbreak early in the episode. I thought this one was going to end on a complete downer at first but things turn around. Everyone isn't happy at the end but things don't look quite as grim as they did during the first 10 minutes.

Sam has dinner with Paige and her family, at the Olive Garden. He can't deal with the noise around him and loses it. He shouts Julia's name out loud and then tells Paige, in front of her family, that he doesn't love her. What was Paige thinking bringing him to dinner with so many people in such a large crowded space? Even if he didn't have feelings for Julia bouncing around in his head he still would have probably lost it.

Sam tells Julia he's in love with her. She doesn't take the news well. He tries to explain but she doesn't respond kindly. Totally understandable but not very professional. Sam is being unreasonable but he doesn't have the enough perspective to know that. He takes the bus home and loses it in the middle of the ride. The bus driver calls Doug and Elsa. They bring him home and he starts hibernating. Nothing can snap him out of it, not even Zahid, until Paige comes by and gives him a piece of her mind.

Casey ignores Ethan until he shows up at the house. She still has not told anyone yet that she saw her mother kissing Nick, the bartender. The information seems to be eating away at her. She blows off her mother a couple times and makes some real snide remarks without coming out and telling her what she saw.

There is so much in this episode to discuss.

Sam wins back Paige, kind of, sort of. Casey talks to Nick. The dance. Julia's ex-boyfriend returns and proposes to her. Casey gets back together with Ethan and leaves a note for her mother (about Nick) where everyone can see it.

The ending is definitely not super comfy but I like it. The show is not perfect but I like it. I hope that there will be a season 2 and that it will be at least as good as this one if not better.
