Samurai Jack 3.06

XXXII: Jack and the Traveling Creatures

Jack's quest to return to the past and undo the evil that is Aku continues. This one is all about the quest although Aku does not make an appearance. Jack is helped along the way by three creatures who eventually lead him to a passage back in time but it is protected by a guardian who refuses to let Jack use it.

There's a narrator at the beginning who tells of how Jack found the first of the traveling creatures. This creature helps Jack travel across a lake of power. It passes him off to another creature that helps him scale very steep mountains. Jack has often been shown scaling what seem like impossibly steep mountains so I'm not sure how necessary this creature was but I liked the look of it. It passes him along to a flying creature that drops him near the gateway.

The guardian reminded me a little of Morpheus from the Matrix. He didn't sound like him but he looked like him. I don't recall having that thought when I watched it before. He didn't act like Morpheus. He proves impossible for Jack to beat but it all leads up to that one shot at the end that gives a glimpse into Jack's future.

This episode. So good. I remembered all the little bits but not that they were all part of the same episode. There isn't a lot of dialogue. I really liked the music and how it was used and changed as the scenes shifted from one creature to another and from one setting to another.
