GLOW 2.07

Nothing Shattered

Ruth's ankle is broken. Debbie doesn't know what to say. She's incapable of apologizing. Everyone else is supportive. Russell and Sam almost knock heads over Ruth. Russell puts down the camera and carries Ruth out of the ring. Sam does not approve, but why doesn't he approve? He insists that Ruth has to stick around even if she will miss wrestling in the last four episodes of the season.

Ruth and Debbie get into a verbal fight while they are waiting for the doctor to tell them that her leg is broken. They throw dirt at one another. I side with Ruth in this one. The most damning piece of evidence against Debbie is her inability to accept responsibility for what happened, for what she did. I was a bit surprised that Ruth didn't throw out the fact that she had an abortion after Mark (Debbie's husband) got her pregnant. I wasn't really hoping she would but I was thinking that if it's ever going to come out this was the moment.

Bash walks in on Debbie in the shower. She's clearly shaken by what happened. She doesn't ask him to leave. This happens when everyone else is at the hospital. It is hard to tell why Debbie is so shaken. She doesn't apologize or accept blame for what she did. I tend to think that Ruth is right about Debbie. She's had it much easier than Ruth. She needs to grow up, learn from her mistakes, and move on. I think that she wants to but is unwilling to cross certain lines for fear of destroying the image she has established for herself.

I was a little surprised by how quickly Debbie recovered from her drug fueled haze. It was also interesting to see her without makeup, at the hospital. She didn't rush to the hospital like just about everyone else did. Instead she showered, changed, and then went to the hospital.

There isn't any wrestling in this episode but it is damn good. That scene in the hospital with Ruth and Debbie was powerful and not the easiest thing to watch. I love how this season is building on what was established in the first season and taking it further.
