UnReal 3.06

Transference

Rachel tries to keep an eye on her father. He seems normal but Dr. Simon warns her that he needs his meds or else he will start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Rachel needs to work and leaves her Dad in her trailer. He wanders off and surprises Serena by wandering into her room while she is in the shower. Rachel was trying to keep his presence on the set a secret but all of sudden everyone knows about it.

Jay's day isn't going much better than Rachel's. Alexi asks him for more cocaine. Xavier shows up unannounced and discovers that Alexi is going to be the host for Passport to Dance. Xavier gets angry. Jay tries to calm his down but that doesn't go very well. He doesn't have much he can offer his lover and then he has to leave him to do his job.

Chet comes up with an idea for how to spice up the show but Serena unknowingly alters those plans when she chooses Guy for a date. Chet noticed how Warren (the cowboy) and Guy (the chef) have been interacting. He wanted to expose how close they have become. Quinn does what she can to add fuel to that fire. She gets Warren drinking and then asks him about his relationship with Guy. She brings him to the restaurant where the date is taking place.

The drunk cowboy starts to make a scene. Serena blames Rachel, who knew nothing about Chet and Quinn's idea. Rachel, still stressed over having her father around gives Serena a piece of her mind. Jasper makes a play for Serena when she gets back to the set of Everlasting. He buys a huge amount of flowers and makes large donations to a few charities in her name. She is shaken but doesn't break.

Chet and Quinn show Guy how they want to play the fake romance between him and Warren. Guy is outraged until they suggest that they are also interested in helping him open a restaurant. He plays along and eliminates himself from the competition at the elimination ceremony. He uses the restaurant as an excuse. He says something about being in love with someone else on the show. He doesn't name them but he squeezes Warren's shoulder on the way out.

Rachel's father starts to experiences some withdrawal effects but he keeps it from Rachel. Dr. Simon gets to Rachel's father while she is out filming Serena's date with Guy. He tells her father about the stress she is under. Rachel comes back in time to catch Dr. Simon talking to her father. She gives him an earful. Her father wanders off and confronts Quinn in front of the cast and crew of Everlasting before Rachel shows up and leads him away. Rachel finally comes to her senses and checks her father into an institution.

Jay tells Alexi about Xavier leaving him. Alexi invites him to join him in doing lines of cocaine. Jay joins him as the episode ends.

As usual the focus was split across more than one story. Jay and Alexi's story seemed to be teased more than it was explored. Maybe it will get more screen time next episode. Rachel and her father was the most meaningful story in this episode. I'm left wondering if there will be any follow up for Guy and Warren in the remaining episodes. For a moment I thought that maybe it would turn out that Warren was actually gay.

It has been a while since I last watched an episode from this season of UnReal, over two months to be precise. I'm glad I came back to the show. I think I enjoyed this episode a little more than the last one.
