Daredevil 3.01

Resurrection

Matt survived the collapse of the building in The Defenders 1.08. He was taken to the orphanage where he grew up after his father was killed. There he is cared for by Sister Maggie (Joanne Whalley) who remembers him from when he was a boy. She doesn't have much patience for his self pity. He tells her about his sensory abilities but he also lets her know that they don't seem to be working any more.

Matt tries to start training as he heals. It isn't until he flushes with a neti pot that he starts to regain some of his abilities. Father Lantom brings him a boxer to spar with him. He regains more strength. He goes out and tries fighting crime but not very successfully.

Karen and Foggy fear that Matt is dead. They haven't heard anything from him. Foggy is convinced of it. Karen wants to believe that he is still alive, even though a building fell on him.

Wilson Fisk gets a visit from his Ben Donovan, his lawyer. Donovan brings good news, that his appeal is moving forward, and bad news, that the Feds are hunting for Vanessa, his wife. Fisk seems to have accepted that he is going to be in prison for a long time but it boils his blood when he hears about the jeopardy his wife is in.

Ray Nadeem, an FBI agent, with financial difficulties is sent to interrogate the Kingpin. Ray doesn't know what to do. He knows Fisk isn't going to talk. The episode closes with it looking like he will probably cut a deal with the Kingpin in return for personal favors.

Thoughts

I continue to enjoy this series. I thought this was an interesting opening episode for the season. I can clearly see tones of Born Again but it does not look like this season is going to be a direct retelling of that story. I like how they introduce Agent Nadeem. It wasn't clear at first that he was an FBI agent. For a second there it looked like he was about to try and do something drastic.
