Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods (2010)

Starring Grant Morrison
Directed by Patrick Meaney

I'm not a fan of Grant Morrison. I've only read one complete work of his, All-Star Superman. I didn't hate it or love it. It was okay. It had moments that I liked but on the whole I didn't feel as if I had just read something groundbreaking or amazing. I am kind of interested in trying some of his other comic books (Animal Man, JLA, Multiversity) but I don't feel a strong urge to do so.

I watched this move is the hopes that it would open my eyes in some ways or give me a greater interest in reading some of his comics. It did not. There is a lot of Grant Morrison in this movie. By that I mean that there is a lot of Grant Morrison talking to the camera and whomever was interviewing him.

The Foot Fist Way (2006)

Starring Danny McBride
Directed by Jody Hill

This movie was shot in the pseudo-doumentary style that is so popular these days. It is about Fred Simmons (McBride), a Tae-Kwon Do instructor in a small town in North Carolina. His marriage isn't doing so good. He's delusional about his abilities. He meets meets his idol, movie star Jeff "The Truck" Wallace. The meeting seems to do more harm than good to his life.

I didn't love this movie. I wasn't terribly impressed by it. I'm honestly not sure why I stuck with it and watched the whole thing. It was kind of like watching a train wreck. There were some laughs in it for me but probably not enough to justify watching the whole film. It will probably appeal to some people but I'm not sure that I would recommend it.

Detour (1945)

Starring Tom Neal, Ann Savage
Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer

Al Roberts girlfriend leaves him to move from New York City to Los Angeles. They were about to get married. She felt that she had to do it for the sake of her career as a singer. He's heartsick without her and eventually decides to hitchhike his way across the country with the hopes of reigniting their relationship.

He makes it as far as Arizona before things turn sour. He gets a ride from a guy who identifies himself as Charles Haskell. Roberts impression of Haskell is that he's a rough character. Haskell tells him some stories that help to bolster that impression. The two men get along well enough as they continue to head for Los Angeles. Haskell has offered to take him the rest of the way there.

The 35th Chamber of Shaolin (1978)

Starring Chia-Hui (Gordon) Liu
Directed by Liu Chia-Liang

San Te (Liu) runs away from his hometown after his friends are killed by the evil Manchus. He winds up at the Shaolin Monastery. He stays, becomes a monk, and spends the next several years studying Shaolin style kung fu. Eventually he returns to his hometown in the hopes of teaching others what he has learned and helping them to put down the evil Manchu rulers.

I enjoyed this movie. The version I saw was dubbed. About half of it was devoted to his time spent training at the monastery.
