Cowboy Bebop 1.23

Brain Scratch

Faye has joined SCRATCH, am electronic transendence group or cult. She was very depressed about the debt collectors coming after her and seems to see the cult as a way out of her predicament, or maybe she's after a bounty. The latter seems like the more likely answer.

The bounty for bringing in Dr. Londes, the leader of the cult, is 38 million. She tries finding Dr. Londes and winds up hypnotized by the cult's technology. She manages to get a message to Spike, Jet, and Ed before it is too late.

Spike goes after Faye. Jet and Ed experiment with a Brain Dream game console. It hypnotizes Jet. Ein doesn't like it and sinks his teeth into Jet's leg until he snaps out of it.

Ed manages to hack into the SCRATCH network and finds a lead that points to Alles Valley Hospice. Jet and Ed head there disguised as a father and daughter. They manage to talk their way past the guard at the front desk.

Spike finds Faye, asleep. Londes appears on one of the TV screens and starts talking to him. He talks about how God didn't create man because man created God. Television has become a religion. Londes isn't real but a construct of a hacker that is in a semi-vegitative state since he was injured in an accident two years before.

Jet and Ed find the hacker and tinker with his connection to the network that he was wired into. Londes was about to hypnotize Spike but Jet and Ed's actions break the connection. Spike and Faye wake up.

This summary can't begin to provide the full experience of watching this episode. It was kind of trippy and that element of it reminded me of 1.14 (Bohemian Rhapsody).
