Doctor Who (1963) 8.04.04

Colony in Space - Part Four

The Doctor goes looking for Jo despite a warning from Ashe. He finds her but the primitives won't let her go. The Doctor and Jo escape temporarily but are recaptured before escaping from the subterranean city. They are taken to the leader who decides to let them go.

The adjudicator shows up while the Doctor is rescuing Jo. He hears the case and is about to render his decision when the Doctor and Jo return. They are surprised to discover that the adjudicator is none other than the Master. The Doctor and the Master talk after which the Master gives his decision. He finds in favor of IMC.

Ashe thinks that they should appeal the case but cooler heads do not prevail. Most of the colonists, led by Winton, set a trap for the IMC goons. A firefight breaks out between the two sides. The Master pulls a gun out, while the shooting is still going on and gets ready to kill the Doctor and Jo.

Thoughts

The bits with the Doctor and Jo in the subterranean city seemed fairly silly. The leader of the primitives was the only one who spoke other than the Doctor and Jo during that part of the episode. It filled time and got the Doctor away so that he wasn't there when the Master showed up but that was about it as far as I was concerned.

The gunfight between the colonists and the IMC guards could have been better. It seemed like just about everyone involved should have been dead because they were all very exposed

I found this episode to be less interesting than the first three. The Master finally showing up was about the only plus. I was really enjoying this story through the first three episodes. I thought they had set up a real conflict but this episode was a bit disappointing in terms of continuing to build on what they had. I hope it gets better in the next episode but I'm starting to fear that it won't.
