The Long Shot
starring Peter Lawford, John Williams
directed by Robert Stevenson
Charlie Raymond (Peter Lawford) takes a job driving Walker Hendricks (John Williams), an Englishman, from New York to San Francisco. He considers robbing the bloke but along the way he discovers that Hendricks is about to inherit $200,000. Charlie murders Walker, drives over him with the car, while they are in the desert in Nevada. He makes it to San Francisco and tries to impersonate Hendricks only to learn that the police are already on to him.
There is a twist ending. It isn't as simple as my summary makes it sound.
I enjoyed this episode very much. I liked the build up. Lawford wasn't great but he was good enough.
Notes
This is the only episode of this show in which Peter Lawford appeared. He also appeared in an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. I've seen him in a few movies in recent years: Sahara (1943), It Should Happen to You (1954), and A Man Called Adam (1966).
This is the first of ten episodes of this show in which John Williams appeared. He also appeared in episodes of Thriller, The Twilight Zone (1959), and Night Gallery.
This is the second of seven episodes of this show that Robert Stevenson directed. The first one was 1.04 Don't Come Back Alive. The first six episodes he directed were all part of the first season.
