Better Call Saul 6.06

Axe and Grind

The episode opens with a flashback to Kim when she was about thirteen. She shoplifted. Her mother is called in and is very stern with her but in the end she seems proud of Kim, once they have gotten away from the store manager.

Howard talks to his wife; at home, in the morning, before he goes into the office. Jimmy and Kim go to see the vet. He gets an injection that makes his eyes dilate. The vet tells them that he will be shutting down his operation soon. He lets them take a look at his client book but it’s in code.

Cliff comes to the Albuquerque courthouse to see Kim. They talk. He has an opportunity for her that is in line with her current line of work as a public defender. She's delighted. She goes to to see Saul at his office. His film crew is there getting ready to shoot something related to the plan to ruin Howard.

Lalo tracks down someone in Germany whom he hopes will have information about Gus Fring. The man attacks him but Lalo gets the upper hand.

Saul gets Francesca to call HHM and get the passcode to dial into a Sandpiper Crossing conference call. She is very nervous about it but she calls HHM while he stands there. It turns out to be easier than she feared it would be.

Jimmy and Kim put the final touches on their plans for the next day and the celebrate by drinking wine outside of HHM.

Jimmy finds a crucial flaw in their plan for Howard and Sandpiper, the next morning, at the last minute. He calls Kim who is on her way to the big meeting with Cliff and other lawyers. She decides to ditch her big meeting, turns her car around, and heads back into town to help Jimmy.

Thoughts

Howard and his wife's conversation was polite but not very warm. It seems like they are not sharing a bed.

I'm not sure what Jimmy and Kim have planned for Howard. I know that they want to take him down a notch or three and force a settlement in the Sandpiper case but other than that I'm in the dark.

If Lalo buys the farm it isn't going to be in Germany, not unless Gus and Mike are also there. It seemed like the man he sought out got the upper hand but I was pretty soon that it wouldn't be long before the tables would get turned. I was right.

This was a good episode, not a great one, but it felt like a lot set up for whatever comes next.
