Luke Cage 2.06

The Basement

Luke and Piranha run from the club. The Jamaicans are hot on their trail. They evade their pursuers but the Jamaicans find them. Piranha's leg gets injured when Luke throws him from one building to another. The Jamaicans catch up to them again. Luke gets his hands on their squad leader. He tries to scare him but the man isn't afraid. Luke and Pirahna take off and hide out in an old movie theater, the Uptown.

Misty is at the police station. Mariah has been brought in after the debacle at the new health center. The heads on the poles in the health center have been identified. One was Coackroach. Misty was getting to plant evidence in his apartment when she found his headless body. She wants to interrogate Mariah but Captain Ridenhour won't let her. Misty overhears a conversation between Captain Ridenhour and Mariah and learns that they went to high school together. He even has a pet name for her.

Shades and Comanche go looking for Luke. They take some high tech weaponry with them and go to the barber shop. No one is there. They camp out there for a while. The two men talk while sitting back to back in the barber shop, waiting for Cage or Lucas as they call him. It becomes clear that they did time in prison together. Comanche once again questions Shades loyalty to Mariah. Shades lets drop the story about Mariah killing Cottonmouth.

Luke decides he needs to turn Piranha in to the cops. He gives Misty a call but refuses to tell her where they are. The Stylers break in to the theater and try to take Piranha. Luke has to rush to catch up to them but he rescues Piranha. He takes him to his father, Reverend Lucas. He asks him to look after Piranha. Luke calls Bushmaster and challenges him to a fight.

Misty decides she's had enough. She talks to an old friend, Dr. Gabe Krasner. She tells him about what she was about to do, plant evidence. She goes to see Captain Ridenhour. She tells him what she did. She gives him the Judas bullet she was about to plant in Cockroach's apartment. He doesn't flip out. It isn't what she was expecting. She can't live with what she did and remain a police officer. She turns in her badge and gun and quits.

Mariah loses her cool when she can't get anyone on the phone. Her daughter doesn't pick up and neither does Shades, although he eventually shows up. He tells her that he knows where MacIver's home base is. She tells him about the restaurant in Brooklyn where MacIver likes to hang out. He all but suggests that they should hit it.

Luke meets with MacIver on High Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the Harlem river. The deal is that if Bushmaster wins Luke agrees to turn over Piranha but if Luke wins then MacIver has to clear out and stop harassing people in Harlem. They chat a little but mostly they fight. Luke is stronger but Bushmaster is faster. MacIver seems to have the upper hand until Luke gets in some good hits and slows him down. Bushmaster can see it doesn't look good so he resorts to a trick. He pulls out out some powder which he blows in Lukes face. Luke is paralyzed. Bushmaster kicks him off the bridge into the river below.

This show is far from perfect but I am still enjoying the ride. I quibble about things if I wanted to but I won't.
