Juiced!
Doug moves out after (1) he sees the note that Casey wrote on the dry erase board in the kitchen and (2) Elsa admits what she did. He punches a hole in the wall which Elsa covers up with a Christmas sign. Elsa and Casey try to keep Sam in the dark about why his father has moved out. They tell him that it is because Doug is building a porch for his father, Doug's father.
Sam talks to others and also in monologues about a hole in Antarctica the size of Maine. He obsesses about it but it is also a metaphor.
Casey starts calling Elsa by her first name, instead of Mom. She's nervous about going to Clayton Prep. She picks on Sam by moving his toothbrush around. Sam eventually loses it and throws a glass of orange juice at Casey. She attacks him and starts to beat him up before Elsa pulls her off of Sam.
Elsa is at a loss. She is reeling from Doug moving out, which was her fault. She won't let Sam see Julia, which is causing him all sorts of problems.
Sam tries a few new therapists but none of them work out. He gets advice from Zahid, which as usual is a bit off the wall. He face times with Paige, who is away visiting family. He finally goes to see Julia, without telling his mother. Julia refuses to "see" him but she does talk to him in her waiting room. I loved some of her facial expressions in response to some of the comments (which admittedly sound odd without the proper context) that Sam throws out.
Doug returns at the end of the episode, which pleases Casey and Sam, but he tells Elsa she needs to leave. Sam knows about Elsa's infidelity by this point.
Overall I thought this episode was quite good. It was a good opener. It sets the scene and reminds me of the things that I like so much about the first season.
