Yvon is arrested by Marchetti's men after the pharmacist confirms that he was the one who shot the German officers. Marchetti tries interrogating him but Yvon won't even tell him his name. Muller finds out that Marchetti has a prisoner and quickly takes Yvon from Marchetti. He doesn't have any more luck than Marchetti did but he uses much more brutal tactics.

Hortense comes to see Heinrich while he is torturing Yvon. She is shocked but not by what she sees. Someone on the street, a beggar, called her a kraut's whore. That's what is bothering her. 

Teen Titans 3.09

The Beast Within

Beast Boy and the other Teen Titans fight Adonis, a supervillain, in a laboratory filled with caged animals. Beast Boy and Adonis crash into a container filled with chemicals. The container breaks and the chemicals spill on both Beast Boy and Adonis.

Beast Boy stats acting like a jerk after the team returns to Titans Tower. Raven and Beast Boy disappear. Robin, Starfire, and Cyborg go looking for them. Beast Boy, now a hulking beast, attacks them and acts like he doesn't know them. Robin and the others rescue Raven, who is unconscious when they find her, but Beast Boy is still acting feral.

Captain Harry Morgan (Humphrey Bogart) runs a fishing boat for tourists from the island of Martinique during World War 2. He finds himself in a bit of trouble after he gets stiffed by a client. The police confiscate what money he has, after his client turns up dead. "Slim" Browning (Lauren Bacall), a guest of the same hotel where Morgan is staying, tries to help him out but the odds are against them.

Harry winds up taking a job, which he previously turned down, ferrying a married couple from another island to Martinique. The couple are wanted by the Vichy government which controls Martinique. Morgan and his drunken friend Eddie (Walter Brennan), have a run in with the Martinique coast guard, while ferrying the married couple. They escape but Captain Renard of the local police department is on their trail.

The Sun Makers - Part Two

The Doctor is knocked out by the gas that fills the booth. Cordo takes off running but he sticks around long enough to see the Doctor taken away by a security team.

Gatherer Hade goes to the Collector to request a security detail to help round up the revolutionaries. It takes some convincing but the Collector finally gives Hade what he needs.

The Doctor is taken to the correction center for correcting. He is in a straightjacket when he wakes up. There he meets Bisham who is there because he was curious. The Doctor messes with some of the machinery as best he can. It buys them some time.

Gatherer Hade returns to his office where he learn from Marn, his assistant, that the Doctor has been picked up and is in the correction center. Hade sends Marn to retrieve the Doctor.

NewsRadio 5.21

Retirement

Jimmy announces that he is going to sell WNYX, retire, and move to New Hampshire. Matthew fears that Dave will fire him once Mr. James has left. Beth and Joe help Matthew prepare for future job interviews. Lisa plans a farewell get together for Mr. James.

Thoughts

The only actors with speaking parts in this episode are the regular cast of the show.

I don't recall seeing this episode before. It had some moments that made me smile but nothing that made me laugh out loud. It felt very meta considering that there is just one more episode left to watch from this show.

Mildred Pierce is brought in for questioning after Monte Beragon (Zachary Taylor), her second (and current) husband is found dead. The movie opened with him getting shot and then whispering her name. Suspicion is first cast on Bert Pierce (her first husband). There is also some suspicion that Wally Fay (Jack Carson), her business partner, might have killed Monte.

Mildred proceeds to tell the policeman investigating the death. Mildred tells the police about how she she had to find work, after separating from Bert, in order to support herself plus Veda (Ann Blyth) and Kay, her two daughters. She lives in fear of what Veda thimks of her. Veda, like Mildred, is obsessed with money. This leads to more than one conflict between mother and daughter.

Sanjuro Tsubaki (Toshiro Mifune), a ronin, meets nine samurai who are clueless about the trouble they have gotten themselves into and unknowingly involved Sanjuro. They think they have solved a problem when in fact they have just created one. Sanjuro offers to help them. The nine are of two minds. Some of them are suspicious of his motives, but others believe him to be true to his word.

The ten men (the nine plus Sanjuro) are hunted by Hanbei Muroto (Tatsuya Nakadai) who leads the forces that pursue them. Dissent within the ranks of the nine creates problems that almost get them and Sanjuro killed. Is it only his quick thinking that keeps them all alive.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.04

Bilko's Valentine

Bilko forgets to get Sgt Hogan anything on Valentine's Day. She gets angry and pretends not to re-enlist. She goes home to Sumter, Georgia. Bilko follows her in an effort to get her to re-enlist. He organizes a parade that passes right in front of her home. He gets on a radio show in her hometown. He tries knocking on her door but she refuses to return to the army.

She is determined not to return until Bilko starts showing up in her dreams. She finally re-enlists.

Thoughts

What happened to Joan's claim that she had not re-enlisted? It was mentioned at the beginning of the episode but then never comes up again. Strange!

I thought the ending was a little weird. Joan was basically harassed into returning to Fort Baxter and taking Bilko back. I'm not sure what sort of a message this episode is supposed to be sending but it wasn't a healthy one.

The Germans are getting ready to execute 20 hotages, most of whom are communists. Daniel and Servier try negotiating with Kollwitz. They get him to agree to cut it down to 10 hotages if they pick the hostages to get executed.

Marchetti returns. He is brought in to run the French search for the shooters. He arrives when Hortense is getting ready to leave Muller's office. They exchange words briefly. Muller is amused by the circumstances.

Teen Titans 3.08

Wavelength

Aqualad comes to see the Teen Titans. He tells them about Brother Blood's scheme to use some of Cyborg's technology to create a massive tidal wave and destroy the city. The Titans, Cyborg in particular, are more than happy to lend a hand.

The six heroes travel to Brother Blood's underwater headquarters at which point they split up into three groups. Beast Boy and Aqualad go after the force field protecting Brother Blood's new weapon. Cyborg goes after the weapon itself. Robin, Starfire, and Raven do their best to distract the forces of Brother Blood so that the other two teams can focus on their missions.

Se-ri and Jeong-hyuk return to his place. They are passed, on the way there, by a car carrying Goo Seung-joon. He sees Se-ri and thinks she looks familiar.

Se-ri and Jeong-hyuk find Seo Dan waiting for them. She needs a ride home. Jeong-hyuk offers to drive her. He gives Seo Dan the same cover story that he has given everyone else about Se-ri, that she is a secret agent who is working with him. Seo Dan shrugs it off.

The Sun Makers - Part One

The Doctor and Leela arrive on Pluto on the top of a very tall building. The Doctor thinks something looks amiss and decides that they should investigate. They leave K-9 in the TARDIS, which they exit just in time to prevent Cordo, a D grade worker, from committing suicide.

Cordo can't afford the cost of his father's funeral. He is in a debt spiral which is impossible for him to escape. The Doctor Leela, and Cordo take cover when they hear noise advertising the coming of the Gatherer. 

The Gatherer arrives on the roof top just as the Doctor, Leela, and Cordo duck out of sight. Gatherer Hade and Marn, his assistant, inspect the TARDIS. Hade decides that the TARDIS is being used by the Ajacks (miners) to smuggle in weapons for the purpose of overthrowing his employer, the Company.

Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) continues to fight crime in her universe. She reveals her identity to her father. It doesn't go well. He feels that he needs to arrest her. She is saved by a couple other Spider heroes Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae).

Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) also has problems in his universe. He is fighting a villain named the Spot (Jason Schwartzman). He is trying to stay on his parents good side but it is kind of tough because he keeps disappearing to fight crime and he has yet to tell his parents that he is Spider-Man.

The Candidate

Johnny encourages Moira to run for city council after Twyla tells them that there's a rumor going around that Moira is running for city council. She isn't interested. Johnny flirts with the idea of running himself but drops it after Moira decides she will run for city. This happens after she learns that Jocelyn is also running for city council.

Alexis wants to hang out with someone. She first tries to get Twyla and then Stevie to spend some time with her, without success.

David goes to a bar with Stevie. They kiss but then decide that it didn't feel right.

A Galactic Lullaby 

The Arcadia arrives at the Twin Planets to search for Mayu. They are the last planets that the Arcadia has yet to visit in the Ulysses Nebula. The Mazone have a trap set up for the Arcadia. It is sprung when the Arcadia passes inbetween the two planets. The Mazone use a gravity beam to immobilize the Arcadia.

The Mazone launch missiles and send ships up to attack the Arcadia. Captain Harlock and his crew break out of the trap by destroying the source of the gravity beam. Captain Harlock goes down to one of the planets in a small ship. He finds the Mazone base and Mayu. The Mazone try to stop him but he shoots his way in and then back out of the Mazone base.

The Television Centre of the Universe (2013)

Part One

Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, and Mark Strickson hang out with Yvette Fielding at Television Centre where Doctor Who used to be filmed. They visit changing rooms, makeup rooms, and talk about their memories of working on Doctor Who in Television Centre. There are also bits of interviews with other people who used to work in Television Centre that are interspersed with the conversations among the four Doctor Who alums.

There is a second part of this documentary but it is included with the DVD for The Underwater Menace, which seems bizarre to me.

This documentary is about Lillo Brancato, the star of A Bronx Tale. He started doing drugs on a regular basis, after becoming a successful actor. He and a friend broke into an apartment of another friend in Dec 2005. Someone called the police. Lillo's friend shot and killed a police officer. Brancato went to prison for armed robbery. He spent more than 8 years in prison. His friend is still in prison for murder.

This documentary is a collection of interviews that director Steve Stanulis conducted with Lillo Brancato, friends of his, people he has worked with, and police officers. It lacks structure. If the director had a point of view it isn't clear what it is. There are conflicting opinions about Brancato but there is no attempt to reconcile them.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.03

Hillbilly Whiz

Bilko has bet money on his platoon's baseball team but they stink. The platoon's fortunes turn around when Private Lumpkin is transferred to Bilko's platoon. He's an ace pitcher from Tennessee. Bilko's plans for Lumpkin and his platoon's baseball team seem to be in jeopardy when Lumpkin's pitching hand gets injured while working on a jeep. It turns out that Lumpkin can pitch just as well with his other hand.

Bilko talks the New York Yankees into taking a look at Lumpkin. The Yankees like what they see in Lumpkin but Lumpkin has doubts. He can't imagine playing for a team called the Yankees, seeing as how he is from the South. Bilko manages to convince him that the team name is just a name and that the players are all from the South.

Lumpkin signs the contract but when Lulubelle, Lumpkin's girlfriend, finds out about it she puts her foot down and the contract gets torn up.

Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) is accused by the police of murdering Miles Archer, his business partner. Archer was killed while working a case that was brought to them by Brigid O'Shaughnessy (Mary Astor). Spade was having an affair with Archer's wife at the time.

O'Shaughnessy turns out to have more up her sleeve than she originally told Spade and Archer. She is being pursued by three men who believe she knows the whereabouts of the titular Maltese Falcon.

Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis) is sent on a trip to South America by her family. Dr. Jaquith (Claude Rains) recommended it. It is a transformative experience for Charlotte. She spends a lot of time in the company of Jerry Durrance (Paul Henreid) during the trip. He is a married man traveling alone. He helps her to come out of her shell.

Charlotte returns home after the trip a changed woman. She enjoys her life and no longer lets her mother push her around. She gets engaged to Elliot Livingston but later breaks that off when she realizes that she still carries a torch for Jerry and doesn't really want to be the sort of wife that Elliot wants.

The communists are getting ready to execute their plan. Yvon has a toothache. Marcel convinces him to come with him to a pharmacy to get something for it. Some German officers enter the pharmacy while they are waiting in line at the pharmacy. Yvon sees an opportunity and shoot the German officers. Yvon and Marcel take off running. Yvon convinces Marcel to hide in a cellar while he takes off to find another hiding place. Marcel spends the rest of the episode hiding in the cellar.

Lucienne decides to accept Jules offer of marriage but there is a snag. Her father is a devout Catholic and Jules was never baptized. Jules goes to the church to talk to the priest about getting baptized. The shooting in the pharmacy happens while he is in the church. The German soldiers won't let anyone leave. Jules helps an older man who gets knocked down by a German soldier. The man introduces himself. He is Lucienne's father.

Revolution

Mad Mod returns on the 4th of July. He captures Robin, steals his youth, and transforms the city. It is up to Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy to rescue Robin and capture Mad Mod. Each of the Titans has a different idea for how to tackle the situation and they can't agree on a plan. Eventually they come together and defeat the baddie and rescue their friend.

Schitt's Creek 2.06

Moira vs. Town Council

Mutt shaves his beard off without saying anything to Alexis before doing it. She feels that he violated an unwritten rule in their relationship. David buys stuff for his job thinking he can write them off but not really understanding what a write off is. Moira decides that the town needs to be prettied up and goes to the town council to ask them to do it.

Thoughts

I like this episode very much. There are lots of uncomfortable moments that made me laugh.

Dexter's Laboratory 1.07

1. Star Spangled Sidekicks

Dexter and Dee Dee compete to become Major Glory's new sidekick. Dee Dee adopts the identity of Deeva Dynamite. Dexter becomes Dek-star.

2. The Justice Friends: TV Super Pals

Major Glory, Valhallen, and Bonk fight over which TV show to watch.

3. Game Over

Dexter is forced to turn to Dee Dee for help when he gets zapped into a video game. There are call backs to Tron and Star Wars (A New Hope) in this story which was by far the best of the three stories in this episode.

A Lone Man's Charge

The Mazone fleet gets closer to Earth. It destroys all signs of humanity (spaceships, space stations, satellites) along the way. Captain Harlock and the crew of the Arcadia continue to look for Mayu, without success. Commander Kirute becomes convinced that the Mazone are real and that they are headed to Earth. He tries talking some sense into the Prime Minister but the PM is more interested in other things.

Commander Otawara, an old comrade of Kiruta, leaves Earth to battle the Mazone by himself. Otawara was kicked out of the military because he killed his wife. He was convinced she was a Mazone but no one believed him. The Arcadia hails Otawara as he is passing by. He gets a last chance to talk to an old friend, Masu Tsunajima, the cook on the Arcadia.

Grim Tales: Revisiting the Visitation (2013)

Mark Strickson takes Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, and Sarah Sutton around some of the locations where the Visitation was filmed. He asks them about their memories of working on this story and some of the people with whom they worked. Insterspersed with the friendly reminiscing are clips from interviews with a few other people who worked also on The Visitation.

The subjects they talked about included

• who started the Great Fire?
• the Terileptil costume
• working with Michael Robbins and Peter Moffatt

Dave revokes Max's breakroom privildges after he is caught taking his coworkers food. Mr. James and Matthew change jobs for a day. Beth freaks out and turns to Lisa for help when she finds out that the CD and Record Club is coming after her for the 300 times she got 19 CDs for 1 penny.

Thoughts

This was a good one, better than average. All three stories made me laugh.

Joe Fabrini (George Raft) and his brother Paul (Humphrey Bogart) are down on their luck independent truckers. They could work for Ed Carlsen (Alan Hale) who runs a big trucking company but they prefer to be their own bosses despite all the risks their line of work entails. It isn't until they get into accident and Paul loses his arm that Joe decides to accept a job working for Carlsen.

Lana Carlsen (Ida Lupino) has been carrying a torch for Joe for a number of years. She starts hitting on Joe once he starts working for her husband. Joe knows better than to cross that line because she is the boss's wife and because he has been seeing Cassie Hartley (Ann Sheridan). Lana gets fed up with her husband's heavy drinking and his lack of refinement. One night she kills him in such a way so as to make it look like suicide.

She asks Joe to take over Ed's role in the company. He agrees to it believing that it is just a business arrangement but Lana has other ideas.

Hildy Johnson (Jack Lemmon) is getting ready to quit his job at the Chicago Daily Examiner, get married, and move to Philadelphia when the movie begins. He tries to wiggle his way out of covering it but he finds himself smack in the middle of the Earl Williams story.

Daniel finds out, from Madame Estabet, that Marcel stole the missing gun. He goes to Marcel and tries talking to him about it but Marcel refuses to listen. He takes his brother's warning seriously enough. He sees plain clothes policemen following him. He loses them. He tries warning his Communist comrades but they have moved up their time table and refuse to change their plans or lay low for a while.

Kurt has less than 24 hours before he gets shipped off to the Russian front. Lucienne doesn't know what to do. Kurt wants to see her that night but there is a celebration at the school that she has to help organize. She suspects that Beriot might have been the one to tell on Kurt.

Life Itself (2014)

This documentary is about the life of Roger Ebert. He died in 2013. There is a fair amount of footage from the last few months of his life. There is also a fair amount of archival footage in the movie. There are readings from Ebert's book of the same name in the documentary. The readings were done by a voice actor who sounded very much like Roger Ebert. It wasn't until after I finished watching the movie and was doing some research that I discovered that it wasn't Ebert himself reading from his book.

The documentary returns to Ebert's situation at the time the movie was being made, which is mostly footage from Ebert's hospital room, several times. There are lots of other topics covered: his childhood, his early years as a movie reviewer, his relationship with Gene Siskel, his marriage, his approach to writing about movies, the impact of his writing and of his TV show with Gene Siskel, and finally his death.
