Spellbound

Raven gets obsessed with a book she's been reading. She turns down offers to socialize with the other Teen Titans. Malchior, the hero from the book, is trapped within its pages. He talks to her and teaches her magic spells. She helps to free Malchior from the book only to discover that it wasn't the hero but the villain, the dragon that the Malchior fought in the pages of the book, with whom she was communicating.

The Space Science Center uses an observation satellite to locate the underwater base that the Vegans are building. Grendizer and Marine Spazer tackle the underwater base. Drill Spazer and Double Spazer deal with the tunnel that the Vegans have built to allow them to surreptitiously deliver supplies to the underwater base.

Professor Umon goes to a scientific conference in Switzerland. He is escorted by Kouji, Maria, and Hikaru in their Spazers. The Vegans get there before them. One of them assumes the identity of Dr. Subyler, Professor Umon's one-time teacher.

He worked with Tom Baker (State of Decay), Peter Davison (The Visitation, Mawdryn Undead, The Five Doctors), and Colin Baker (The Twin Dilemma, The Two Doctors). He also got a chance to work with Jon Pertwee (The Five Doctors) and Patrick Troughton (The Five Doctors, The Two Doctors).

There are lots of clips from the six stories he directed but Moffatt is the only person interviewed about those stories for this feature.

Bilko's Boys Town

Bilko's unit is set to go on maneuvers in the desert for a couple weeks. Colonel Hall figures out that Bilko is planning to take his platoon to Las Vegas while they are in the desert. Bilko and his platoon are left behind at Fort Baxter so he comes up with another scheme.

Bilko and his unit convert Fort Baxter into a camp for boys. Everything is going great until he learns that Colonel Hall and the rest of the men who are in the desert are returning a few days early.

This episode focuses on Orson Welles tenure at RKO.

Citizen Kane was Welles’ first movie. He was starting from ground zero in terms of learning the process. He had the creative energy needed. He leaned heavily on others to teach him or handle the technical aspects of film making. 

RKO chief George Schaefer got increasingly nervous and wanted to know what was going on in the production of Citizen Kane. He had a spy on the set. Welles did what he could to keep accurate information from flowing to Schaefer.

Judith Trahern (Bette Davis) finds her life turned upside down when she learns that she has a brain tumor. Ann King (Geraldine Fitzgerald), Judith's best friend, and Frederick Steele (George Brent), Judith's doctor, try to keep her in the dark about the seriousness of the tumor but by chance she finds out the truth. She lashes out against them at first but eventually mellows.

Judith begins a romance with Frederick which she ends when she finds out about the seriousness of her condition. She re-ignites her relationship with Frederick once she gets over the emotional pain she felt. They get married and move to Vermont and enjoy what time they have left together. The tables get turned towards the end of the movie once Judith realizes that the end is very near and decides not to share that information with Frederick.

Johnny Ingram (Harry Belafonte), a musician with a gambling problem who is deeply in debt to the mob, needs a break. Earle Slater (Robert Ryan), an ex-con with a chip on his shoulder, also needs a break. Both are contacted by Dave Burke (Ed Begley), an ex-policeman with a criminal record. Burke has a plan which will net them at least $50K a piece. Burke insists that it will be an easy one-time job. Both Ingram and Slater, brush Burke off, at first.

Ingram has an ex-wife and a daughter to support. Slater is living with Lorry (Shelley Winters), but he can't stomach the fact that she is working and he is not. He cheats on her by forcing himself on Helen (Gloria Grahame), one of their neighbors, who is in a loveless marriage.

Both men change their minds and agree to take part in the heist, despite their mutual animosity for one another. Slater's racially charged way of speaking adds tension in the working relationship. Things go from bad to worse. Bad luck compounds the situation on the night of the heist.

Marcel is tasked with obtaining a gun for the communist cause. He works with Suzanne to make it happen. She puts him in touch with Madame Estabet who cleans the brothel that the German officers visit. Madame Estabet gives him the key to the service entrance. He uses it to sneak in and steal a German officer's gun while the officer is in bed with one of the prostitutes.

Sarah helps Daniel figure out that supplies are not reaching their destination. He goes to Servier who is resistant to moving too quickly to figure out what is going on. Daniel turns to DeKervern for help. DeKervern has been suspended but Larcher deputizes him to shake down the men whom he sees taking supplies.

NewsRadio 5.19

Padded Suit

Dave is in a bad mood and wants to fire one of the staff. Lisa tries to talk him out of it. Matthew and Max ask Joe to teach them the art of self-defense. Mr. James decides to declare war on Mother's Day.

Thoughts

There are some extras in this background in this episode but the only people who play roles are the regular cast.

I could be cynical and say this one was lame but it was also funny and made me laugh.

Schitt's Creek 2.05

Bob's Bagels

Johnny makes a casual remark about starting a bagel shop in town. Bob likes the idea and tries to convince Johnny to make it happen.

David goes for a job interview at the Blouse Barn, the same place that he and Roland went shopping for a gift for Jocelyn.

Alexis is sick. Moira doesn't want to get near her for fear of getting sick herself.

Thoughts

Not bad. This one was good. It wasn't laugh out loud funny but I chuckled a few times.

Batman Beyond 2.06

Blood Sport

Batman is hunted by Stalker, who breaks into a museum in order to lure Terry into a trap. Batman's first encounter with Stalker ends when Stalker throws a smoke bomb at him. Stalker later catches up to Terry while he is with Matt, his little brother, at Cheezy Dan's. Terry leaves his brother with Max and takes off running. He makes his way on to the subway but Stalker finds him there.

Terry evades Stalker and makes his way back to Cheezy Dan's. He finds Max but his brother is missing. It isn't until after he talks to Bruce that Terry discovers that his clothes were covered with a substance (from the smoke bomb that Stalker threw at him earlier in the episode) that is hard to detect but that helped him to track Terry.

Batman tracks down Stalker who has just finished telling Matt his origin story. Batman and Stalker fight. Stalker starts to hallucinate and imagines that Batman is the great cat who almost killed him earlier in his life. Stalker runs in fear and is hit by a train.

Dexter's Laboratory 1.06

1. Dee Dee's Room

Dexter suits up and sneaks into his sister's room to retrieve a missing tool which he suspects she took.

2. Dial M for Monkey: Huntor

Momkey is captured by Huntor, the galaxy's greatest hunter, and forced to face off against Huntor. He tries to decline the offer but Huntor has captured Agent Honeydew and threatens to kill her if Monkey does not agree to participate in the competition.

Dee Dee appears briefly in the beginning of this episode but Dexter does not.

Vega Daio puts Zuril in charge of the next mission, building out their underwater base. This angers Gandal but he agrees to follow their leader's orders. the Vegans launch a tsunami at the coast of Japan. The tsunami devastates an industrial area. Professor Umon is puzzled because there is no sign of the Vegans and the tsunami seems unnatural. He sends Hikaru to investigate the damage in Marine Spazer.

Chou, Khuon, Souvanh (their 3-year-old son), and other relatives are forced to leave Phnom Penh when the Khmer Rouge take over Cambodia in 1975. They are forced into the countryside where they are made to work in the fields. Chou and Khuon are separated from Souvanh. They want to find him but the Khmer Rouge guards won't let them.

Chou and Khuom meet Sok, one of Khuon's cousins. Sok has joined the Khmer Rouge and is a true believer. He cuts Khoun and his relatives little slack, at first.

Khuon is eventually sent away to work in another part of the country. He is gone for years. Chou survives without him but sees other members of her extended families killed for various reasons.

Chou and Khuon are eventually reunited. They go looking for their son as the Khmer Rouge begin to lose their hold on the country.

Doctor Who (1963) 19.04.04

The Visitation - Part Four

The Doctor disarms Richard Mace and disconnects the power sources for the control bracelets that Mace and Tegan are wearing. Mace picks the lock and releases the Doctor from the handcuffs. They escape from the room and stroll around the house. The Miller locks them in a room but they manage to escape, overpower him, and remove the power source from his control bracelet. 

The Terileptil sends the android to find the TARDIS. It encounters Adric and the men who captured him. The men are frightened off. Adric follows the android back to the TARDIS. Nyssa uses the device she created to destroy the Android. Adric pilots the TARDIS to the house where the Doctor, Tegan, and Mace are located. They get there just about the time that the Doctor realizes that they are locked in.

The Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa, Adric, and Mace go to London in search of the Terileptil. They find it using one of the scanners on the TARDIS. They get into a fight with the Terileptil and his friends. The Doctor accidentally starts a fire.

Philip Raven (Alan Ladd), a contract killer, kills two people for Willard Gates (Laird Cregar) who repays him by short changing him and paying what money he gives him in counterfeit bills. Raven soon has the law on his tail because he passed counterfeit bills. Leading the attempt to capture him is Michael Crane (Robert Preston).

Ellen Graham (Veronica Lake), Crane's girlfriend and a stage magician, was recently hired by Gates to work in his Los Angeles nightclub. She moves from San Francisco, where she auditioned, to Los Angeles. Raven and Ellen wind up sitting next to one another on the train to Los Angeles, by chance. Gates spots sitting next to one another and suspects that they are working together.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.01

Bilko's Merrry Widow

Bilko hears about the money ($500) that is being offered to the first group to put on a Broadway style production in Roseville. Bilko does his best to pull together a production of The Merry Widow but things keep interfering with his ability to keep the show on track.

Thoughts

Corporal Barbella was not in this episode.

Margaret Hamilton played the part of Hermione Nightingale the headmistress of a school for girls. This is her second and final appearance on this show. She is best known for playing the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

Dexter's Laboratory 1.05

1. Jurassic Pooch

Dexter creates a dinosaur that thinks it is a dog. It is nothing short of  amazing that Dexter manages to harvest the brain and heart of a dog without making it look horrific.

2. Dial M for Monkey: Orgon Grindor

Monkey and Agent Honeydew are having dinner together when he is hypnotized by the music of Orgon Grindor. The bad guy wants Monkey to help him rob Fort Knox. Agemt Honeydew intervenes and evens the odds.

3. Dimwit Dexter (or Dumb Like Dee Dee)

Dexter gets so angry when one of his experiments fails that he has a mental meltdown. Dee Dee takes advantage of the situation and dresses him up, does up his hair, and puts lipstick on him.

Teen Titans 3.05

Haunted

Robin is convinced that Slade has returned. He sees Slade. He fights Slade but his teammates can't see Slade. Robin says Slade is using cloaking technology and that explains why the others can't see him. They have doubts. He has doubts about his teammates. They restrain Robin but he breaks free.

Thoughts

Beast Boy gets a cold. His nose gets very runny. He sneezes a lot and every time he changes into a different kind of animal.

Raven manifests her soul self, although she doesn't call it that, for the first time this season and possibly for the first time on the show. Hopefully it won't be the last time it makes an appearance.

I this episode but the moment where Robin figures out what is really going on wasn't all that great. It came out of nowhere and didn't make much sense. That said, I really like the way this one plays up to that point. Is Robin imagining Slade? Did Slade really return from the dead? Could this be someone else impersonating Slade? These are the questions that went through my head as I watched.

Abby (Rosemarie DeWitt) hits a wall, a metaphorical wall. She needs to move out of her apartment but she doesn't want to move in with her boyfriend. Things get more complicated for her when she develops an aversion to touching other people. This is a big problem for her because she is a massage therapist.

Abby's brother Paul's (Josh Pais) dentistry practice is foundering. Things start to turn around once word gets out that he has done wonders for people who have TMJ. 

Paul's daughter Jenny (Elliot Page) works for her father.

Abby's relationship with Jesse (Scoot McNairy), her boyfriend, starts to crumble when she develops as aversion to touching people.

The Vegans set their plan into motion to establish a base on Earth. They genetically engineer a beast that is a combination between a bird and a snake. It is big like a saucer beast and they send it to Earth to wreck havoc. Duke Fleed, Maria, Kouji, and Hikaru find out about the beast and attack. It turns out to be very fierce.

The Visitation - Part Three

Adric escapes out the window but Tegan is captured by the android. She is later fitter with a control bracelet that turns her into a mindless automaton.

The Doctor and Richard Mace are spared execution when a couple men (sent by the alien) order the masked men to lock them up. The Doctor notices that the new arrivals are wearing control bracelets. He manages to remove the power sources from the control bracelets but the men are too groggy after their release from the alien's control to be of use.

Nyssa continues to work on the device the Doctor asked her to put together. Adric finds his way back to the TARDIS. He sticks around for a while but later leaves to look for the Doctor. He is quickly captured by some of the masked men.

They plan to catch a flight out of the country with the money they have taken but getting to the airport proves to be problematic. Ratzinger (Jason Robards), the police detective in charge at the scene of the robbery tries to catch the robbers as they inch their way toward the airport.

Hortense is visiting Müller just down the hall from where Marcel, Suzanne, and all the other civilians who were rounded up are being held. Hortense had sex with Müller and on the way out she sees Marcel. She goes back and explains to Heinrich who Marcel is before leaving.

Müller interrogates Marcel and Suzanne. He asks her a lot more questions that him. He has serious doubts about her story. He winds up letting them go when Kollwitz comes to see him and wants to know what he's doing.

Teen Titans 3.04

Crash

Beast Boy downloads a boot leg copy of a new video game. He tries playing it on Cyborg's computer but it doesn't work. Cyborg gets infected with a computer virus when he plugs himself into the computer that Beast Boy tried to use.

Cyborg starts acting very strange. He starts eating all sort of inedible objects. His teammates subdue him and he falls asleep. The Titans turn to Gizmo for help. He reluctantly agrees to help them. He shrinks himself down to microscopic level and enters Cyborg's body. Beast Boy takes on the the form of an amoeba and joins Gizmo.

Cyborg wakes up and starts wrecking all sorts of havoc. Robin, Starfire, and Raven try to stop him. Gizmo and Beast Boy find their way to Cyborg's brain and confront the virus.

Schitt's Creek 2.04

Estate Sale

Moira and Johnny go to an estate sale. Moira wants to bid on a mattress. She winds up getting into a bidding battle with Jocelyn. Mutt gives Alexis a bicycle. She eventually levels with him. She doesn't know how to ride a bicycle. Roland asks David for some help buying an outfit for Jocelyn.

Thoughts

I like the pairing of David and Roland, who reveals a little bit about games that he and Joceyln like to play. I like this episode. It isn't a homerun but it really worked for me.

This episode picks up where the last one left off.

King Gori carries Hikaru to the top of a skyskraper. Kouji uses Double Spacer to fly Grendizer, which is now missing an arm, back to the Space Science Center for repairs. Maria distracts King Gori while Duke Fleed, her brother, rescues Hikaru.

The Visitation - Part Two

The Doctor finds a hidden door and leads the others through it. They explore a section of the house that they had not seen before. They find some high tech equipment that looks far too advanced for 1666. The Doctor and his companions are interrupted by an android. The Doctor, Nyssa, and Richard Mace flee after Tegan and Adric are struck unconscious by the android.

The Doctor, Nyssa, and Mace find the escape pod that carried the android and the alien to Earth. The escape pod is large on the inside but most of the machinery has been removed. Humans who are being controlled by the alien approach the escape pod. The Doctor, Nyssa, and Mace find another way out of the pod.
