The Invaders 1.13

Storm

David Vincent travels to St. Matthew Beach, FL looking for Dr. Gantley, a scientist who has been investigating an out of season hurricane. Vincent suspects that the Invaders might have something to do with the storm. Gantley is killed by Invaders while investigating the Lydia J, a boat, before David gets a chance to talk to him.

David Vincent makes contact with Father Corelli, a friend of Dr. Gantley. The priest leaves suddenly after he learns of his friend's death. David stays behind in the church where he is attacked by a couple of Invaders. He kills one of them with one of their high tech weapons. The other one is getting ready to kill David Vincent when they get interrupted.

Father Corelli allows David Vincent to rest in his quarters next to the church. David is weak from the beating. He drinks some tea prepared by Lisa, Father Corelli's housekeeper. Lisa put something is the tea to make David sleep. David wakes up and tries to make his way to a phone. He sees Lisa talking to the surviving man who attacked him in the church. David is still feeling woozy. He gets to the phone but then he collapses. Lisa finds him, unconscious, and disconnects the phone.

Lisa tries to make David Vincent drink something else when he wakes up but he refuses. She tries again. He gets violent and pushes her away. Father Corelli walks in with some men from the town. Father Corelli hits David when he sees that Lisa's clothes are ripped. David is about to tell Father Corelli about what he saw when one of the men pulls out a device and holds it up behind Father Corelli. David keeps his mouth shut. The men take David away in a car.

The car gets stopped by the police. The men say they are taking David to the hospital. He asks the police officer to take him to the hospital. The men are forced to hand David Vincent over. The police officer stops the car, at the police station, on the way to the hospital. He leaves David Vincent in the car and Vincent drives off with the police car.

Father Corelli and Lisa are getting ready to head to a storm shelter. There is a fierce storm brewing, generated by the Invaders' equipment. He decides to stop in the church to say a prayer before heading to the shelter. He finds two invaders using equipment he didn't even know was in the church. He wants to stop them but one of them pulls out a gun.

David Vincent drives to the church. He waits for the right moment and then attacks the Invaders. He knocks the gun away from the Invaders. Father Corelli picks it up but he refuses to shoot the Invaders, one of whom sacrifices himself to destroy the storm controlling equipment. Lisa and the other Invader escape. David tries to pursue them but he is still recovering.

Thoughts

David Vincent spends a good chunk of this episode incapacitated.

How is it that David Vincent is still alive. The aliens should have bumped his off several episodes ago. He seems to cause them nothing but trouble.

I was intrigued, at first, by the control panel that was revealed to be hidden behind a plaque in the church.

I have to laugh at how powerful the aliens seem at times and yet how quickly they abandon their plans.

On the whole this was not a very good episode.

Notes

Joseph Campanella played the part of Father Corelli. He has over 200 screen credits according to IMDb. He was a regular guest star on numerous TV shows for more than 50 years. This is the only episode of The Invaders in which he appeared.
