Cats and Girls and Spaceships

The Outlaw Star is on its way to Symka 5 space station when it is attacked by another ship. Gene thinks he can take the other ship but he quickly discovers that the other ship is more powerful than he thought. He creates a diversion and then runs away in the end.

Gene and Jim find a mechanic to repair the Outlaw Star once they get to Symka 5. Gene and Melfina go looking for a bar. Aisha and Suzuka each go their separate ways while the ship is being worked on. Jim meets a girl named Hanmyo.

Jim meets up with Hanmyo a second time. They spend time in a park together. Once the Outlaw Star is repaired they take off even though Jim had plans to meet up with Hanmyo a third time. The Outlaw Star encounters the mystery ship that attacked them before.

The two ships fight again but this time the Outlaw Star wins and destroys that other ship. They never learn the identity of the pilot of the other ship. It was Hanmyo. The Outlaw Star returns to Symka 5 for more repairs. Jim returns to the park in the hopes of seeing Hanmyo again but he never does and never learns why.

The intro to this episode is all about Jim.

The cats referenced in the title of this episode are Hanmyo's companions.

There's a moment towards the end of the episode, where the fight is ending, that the music reminded me of the music from Cowboy Bebop. The tune was played on a harmonica. The mood of the moment and the episode as a whole reminded me of Cowboy Bebop.

There was nothing too surprising in this episode but I still found it moving. It was kind of inevitable that Hanmyo would turn out to be the pilot of the other ship and that she would die.
