XXXI: Jack and the Scarab
Aku frees an evil trio of beasts, the minions of Set, from an ancient Egyptian prison. In repayment for freeing them he asks them to destroy Jack. Aku knows that Jack is headed their way. He disappears and leaves the minions of Set to their dirty work.
Jack arrives at the ruins. He was there once before as a boy. The episode opened with a flashback to Jack's childhood, when he was visiting Egypt. He heard about the minions of Set back then. They don't give him much of a chance to get his bearings before they attack. Jack is in a fight for his life before he has much of a chance to do anything.
Jack ducks and dodges the blows of the minions of Set. He goes back to the prison where they were held and reads the hieroglyphics which tell him what must be done. The minions of Set are hot on his tail but Jack finds the pieces of the scarab and assembles them. The God Osiris is summoned and deals with the minions of Set.
This is a wonderful episode. One of my all time favorites. I could watch this episode a million times. It is such a great mix of action and wordless visual storytelling. There is dialogue but not too much. It is a very smart episode. Aku is in it, always a plus. There is even a little bit of humor.
