Bosch: Legacy 3.10

Dig Down

Detective Harry Bosch works with LAPD Detective Renee Bosch to solve a case. It looks like the case is linked to an unsolved serial killer case that has been haunting Bosch for more than a dozen years. Bosch and Ballard clash. He uses unorthodox methods. She tries to play it straight but she also puts a tracking device on his car without getting permission to do so. She learns to accept his tactics and together, along with some help from some of his friends, they find and capture the killer.

Thoughts

I started to watch the first episode of Ballard. I paused it when I was about halfway through the episode. I did a little research and discovered that Renee Ballard appeared in the last episode of Bosch: Legacy. I decided to give it a watch before finishing the first episode of Ballard. I thought it might explain some things as to where things begin in the first episode of Ballard but so far I don't think watching this episode yielded any nuggets of useful information.

I haven't watched Bosch or any other episodes of Bosch: Legacy. I read the first five Bosch novels, before Bosch was a TV show. I enjoyed them but eventually I felt like I had read enough and stopped.

I tried watching Bosch once before. There was something about the portrayal of the main character that rubbed me wrong. It was different enough from what I recalled from the books that it didn't feel right to me. I can see how some people might like or love it but it isn't my cup of tea. I feel no compulsion to go back and start watching Bosch from the beginning. I do still plan to finish watching the first episode of Ballard and maybe more than just the first episode.

This was an okay episode. It was a little too text book for me. Everything moved a little too quickly and smoothly. Ballard is more or less the co-star of this episode. It is as much her episode as it is Bosch's.

The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House 1.09

Passage

One of the maiko opts to leave the house after seeing how dedicated Sumire is to learning how to be a geiko. Sumire (aka Momohana) is elevated from maiko to geiko.

Thoughts

This is the final episode of the series. Sumire's journey from maiko to geiko seemed extremely fast. This episode focuses very much on Sumire. That seems a bit off to me considering the title of the series implies that the show is supposed to be about Kiyo, the cook. I have no idea how much it diverges from the manga in this respect.

Eleanor writes something down on a piece of paper and puts it in Janet's mouth. The next thing Eleanor knows she just arrived in the Good Place. She is given a place to live and a soul mate.

Janet shows up and gives Eleanor the piece of paper she found in her mouth. Written on it is two words: Find Chidi. Eleanor doesn't know what to make of it or what a Chidi is.

Thoughts

The flashbacks in this episode belong to Michael.  They didn't spoil the reveal.

This was an okay episode. I had part of the ending of this season spoiled for me a while back, before I even started watching this season of the show. I'm undecided as to whether I will give the second season a try. It isn't a bad show but I'm not the biggest fan of Kristen Bell. She's kind of bland in my book. So maybe I will give the second season a try, some day, and maybe I won't.

The stock price of Bio-jei currently sits at 90K. The Good Place 1.12

Mindy St. Claire

Eleanor, Jason, and Janet take the train to the in between place. They meet Mindy St. Claire who lives there by herself. Eleanor and Mindy talk while Jason and Janet try to figure out how to have sex. Judge Shawn hears testimony from Michael, Chidi, Tahani, and the other Eleanor as to whether Eleanor deserves to stay in the Good Place or not.

Shawn ultimately decides that Eleanor and Jason deserve to go to the Bad Place. He gives them four hours to return or elase Tahani and Chidi will take their places in the Bad Place. The episode ends with Eleanor and Jason (and Janet) returning from Mindy St. Claire's place.

Thoughts

There are flashbacks to Eleanor's past including the day she was killed and the day that talked her deadbeat parents in to signing the paperwork to emancipate her.

This episode was okay. There was a laugh or two in it. The Mindy St. Clair part of it seemed like filler, although as I understand it Mindy does return in future episodes.

Notes

Judge Shawn was played by Mark Evan Jackson. This is the second of 21 episodes of this show in which he appeared. I've watched a few other things he has in which he has made guest appearances including episodes of GLOW, Parks and Recreation, and Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Maribeth Monroe played the part of Mindy St. Claire. This is the first of seven episodes of this show in which she appeared.
