Dedicado a Max
Mike wakes up south of the border. He tries leaving but he is still in bad shape. He resigns himself to staying. His phone is dead and there is no phone that he can use to call the United States. The doctor who takes care of him says it will probably be a week or more before he can leave.
Jimmy puts on the full court press for Acker, the man who refuses to leave. He finds all sorts of gimmicks to delay the police from forcing Acker out. Kevin doesn't like it but he refuses to back down. He knows that Kim's boyfriend, Jimmy, is the one behind it all. Kim offers to step down but Kevin says no. Rich Schweikart meets with Kevin but nothing will sway Kevin.
Saul tried to hire Mike to dig up some dirt on Kevin. Mike turns down the offer. Saul instead hires Mr. X who thinks that Kevin is clean as a whistle. Kim sees something in one of the photos that Mr. X took that gives her an idea.
Schweikart sees through the fact that Kim and Saul are working in cahoots. He asks Kim to step down. She refuses. She has found something she wants to use on Kevin. She doesn't tell Rich that but she makes it clear that she has no intention of handing off the Mesa Verde work to someont else.
The episode ends with Gus coming to see Mike. He explains to Mike that he wants him on his team because he senses that Mike understands revenge.
Thoughts
Nacho and Lalo are not in this episode. Mr. X appeared once before in an episode from the first season of Better Call Saul. The doctor that tends to Mike is Barry Goodman. He also appeared in a couple episodes of Breaking Bad and one episode each from seasons 3 and 4 of Better Call Saul. It looks like this episode is his final appearance.
I'm finally starting to see a hint of where Mike is going this season. I can't foresee it all but unlike in the first four episodes of the season, I don't feel like Mike is drifting aimlessly anymore.
This was a very good episode.
