Better Call Saul 5.08

Bagman

Saul gets instructions from Lalo. He heads out into the desert near the US-Mexico border to pick up the money. He meets the cousins at the assigned spot. They drop off two duffle bags full of cash and leave without saying a word.

Saul throws the cash in his car heads back to Albuquerque. He doesn't get very far before he gets pulled over by armed men. They are getting ready to kill him when a sniper starts shooting at the armed men. All but one of the armed men are killed by the sniper.

Saul goes into shock. Mike, the sniper, gets him back into his car. Mike's car is damaged beyond any simple fix. They drive as far as they can in Saul's car but then it breaks down. It was also damaged during the gun battle. They push the car into a ravine and abandon the road.

Kim goes to see Lalo. Jimmy told her the short version of what he was trying to do. She explains that Saul is her husband. Lalo seems satisfied but ends the meeting there.

Mike and Saul press on. Saul is ready to give up when they notice that they are close to the road and that the car that got away is approaching. Saul makes himself a target. Mike shoots the vehicle, causing it to crash. Everyone in the vehicle is killed in the crash.

The episode ends with Mike and Saul continuing to trudge on through the desert, this time along the road.

Thoughts

Nacho and Gus are not in this episode.

How did Mike find Saul? It seems awfully convenient that Mike staked out just the right spot. Maybe it seemed like an ideal spot for an ambush. How long had Mike been out there waiting? He must have gotten out there before the guys who ambushed Saul. How did the armed men who almost killed Saul know where to find him?

I don't see how Kim going to see Lalo is going to produce any positive results for either Jimmy or Kim.

This was a pretty good episode. I liked it but I bet that there are some who didn't and there are unanswered questions.
