Vee's plan to sell homemade cigarettes to the other inmates goes into operation. Everyone seems to be on board except for Poussey.
Black Cindy gets the backstory spotlight. She used to be a TSA security guard at the airport in Pittsburgh. She took advantage of her position and stole stuff from bags she inspected. She has a daughter, Monica, who thinks they are sisters. The exact crime that gets her locked up isn't shown but there are plenty of hints dropped.
Black Cindy disrespects Vee and suffers the consequences. She sells cigarettes for favors instead of stamps. Vee cuts her off. She uses both the carrot and the stick. She compliments Cindy and then points out her shortcomings. It works. Cindy asks for another chance. Vee is willing to give it to her but she's going to make her work for it.
Chapman gets the newsletter going. She recruits Dayanara, Morello, and Flaca to help her pull it together. Dayanara draws a cartoon for the newsletter. Morello contributes beauty tips. Flaca writes an advice column. Chapman writes a piece about Caputo for the newsletter.
Caputo is angry about Jimmy's escape from Litchfield. No one seems to know how it happened. Caputo sets quotas for "shots" for the correctional officers to meet on a daily basis. Things get ugly. Prisoners start getting written up for the most innocent of things.
Bennett can't take the heat, getting blackmailed by the prisoners working in the kitchen. They ask him for gay porn. He gives Ramos, Flores, and Ruiz shots when they try to argue with him and then sends Ramos to SHU when she keeps arguing.
Fischer doesn't seem to realize that Caputo is angry with her for bringing the others to the club. She spends some of her time on the job listening in on phone calls that inmates make. She overhears Aleida mention that Dayanara is pregnant. She doesn't come out and say it quite that blatantly and there might be some room for Fischer to misunderstand but the cat is coming out of the bag.
Red continues to dole out the goods she gets smuggled into the prison. Mendoza stops by and asks for a favor. She wants Red to grow her some cilantro. They talk a little bit about Vee's cigarette operation and how they feel about it.
Piper meets with Andrew Nance, the NPR reporter who wants to do a piece on the embezzlement of funds at Litchfield. He gives her some things to look for. She doesn't exactly have the resources or access to find what happened to the missing funds but maybe she will find something eventually.
Polly goes to see Larry. She's pissed at him for what he did last episode. She transitions from that to wanting to have sex with him. Pete, Polly's husband stops by later on. He wants to chat with Larry. It isn't clear if he knows that Polly cheated on him with Larry or if he just needs to talk to someone and picked Larry.
Figueroa and her husband find out that his opponent is the election just got a large donation. It doesn't look good for the Figueroa campaign. It doesn't help their relationship. Her husband's romantic relationship with one of the guys wokring for him doesn't help either.
Jimmy breaks her arm and gets released from prison early. She is still delusional. She still thinks that Caputo is her boyfriend or husband. She calls to Chapman for help as they escort her away.
Damn good episode. I like all the twists and turns. I see the wheels turning but I'm left wondering where and how things will progress between here and the end of the season. I think that every episode in this season, up to this point, has been outstanding, with one exception. I was very impressed with how the backstory scenes were woven throughout the episode.
