Wild Horses
Spike runs into Doohan, an old friend after crashing on a planet. Doohan fixes up the Swordfish, Spike's ship.
The rest of the Bebop's crew are high above the planet trying to catch some Space Pirates. The pirates turn out to be a little more competent than Jet and Faye are expecting them to be. They take control's of Faye's ship and turn it on the Hammerhead, Jet's ship.
Spike eventually makes it back to the Bebop. They take another crack at the Space Pirates. Jet thinks he knows how to counter the pirates tricks. Things don't work out exactly as planned. The Pirates ship looks like it gets destroyed entering the planet's atmosphere. The same almost happens to Spike and the Swordfish. Doohan and Miles, his assistant, come to the rescue, in a ship that looks like the Columbia Space Shuttle. The real Columbia Space Shuttle was destroyed in 2003 while re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
Doohan has to be reference to James Doohan, aka Scotty on the original Star Trek series.
This one is a bit all over the place. It seems to lack focus. Is it supposed to be about them trying to catch the Space Pirates or Spike's relationship with Doohan? It isn't clear. Equal time seems to be given to both stories. It isn't an awful episode but it does leave me scratching my head. It certainly isn't a favorite of mine.
