Hard Luck Woman
Faye and Ed land the ship on Earth, it was headed toward Mars. They go on a little trip. Faye is looking for a piece of her past. She's been watching the video she got from her past which was last seen in 1.18 (Speak Like a Child). There's a fountain in the video. Ed says she knows where it is.
The first place that Ed takes Faye is not the fountain but a junk heap. There they meet a bunch of kids and a nun. It turns out that Ed is not a stranger to them. The nun runs an orphanage. Ed lived in the orphanage for a few years but then she vanished three years ago.
Ed and Faye finally go and find the fountain from the video, after the nun tells Faye about Ed's father. He showed up a couple months ago looking for his daughter. Faye meets Sally, a woman who recognizes her, at the fountain. Sally is much older than Faye but claims to have been her high school classmate. Faye doesn't recognize her or remember much of anything from her past. The meeting brings back some memories for Faye but nothing comprehensible.
Sally mentions an accident and that Faye was but into deep sleep, something that came up in 1.15 (My Funny Valentine). The conversation doesn't get very far before they are interrupted by Sally's granddaughter.
Faye has a flashback while she is taking a shower aboard the Bebop. She suddenly remembers the accident that caused her to be put into cryogenic sleep. She has to leave. She tells Ed, before she goes, that she should also find the place where she belongs.
Spike and Jet are on the trail of a bounty. They don't know it but Appledelhi Siniz Hesap Lutefen, the guy they are after, is Ed's father. They catch up to Appledelhi while he and his assistant Macintyre chase after meteors. Ed's father turns out to be more than capable of dealing with Spike in hand-to-hand combat. Their fight is interrupted by the reunion of father and daughter, although Appledelhi calls her Francoise at first. He invites her to come with him but then they see a meteor streak across the sky. Appledelhi and Macintyre take off after the meteor before Ed can respond to her father's invitation.
Faye finds what seems to be the spot where her home used to be. There is nothing left of it.
Ed leaves the Bebop in the end. Ein follows her. Faye seems to have left too but she is shown in the preview of the next episode, unlike Ed.
This is such a good episode. I'm sure it probably doesn't speak to everyone but I was really moved by it, especially way it ended. I watched it three times and the ending got me every time.
