starring Richard Roundtree
directed by Gordon Parks
100 minutes
Private Investigator John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) searches for the daughter of Harlem kingpin Bumpy Jonas after she goes missing.
Thoughts
This was my first time watching Shaft, although I have seen the 2000 film of the same name.
The movie is part spectacle and part action thriller.
I thought it started out a little slow. It was pretty clear early on that the search for Jonas' daughter was part of the story but it wasn't clear until much later how central it was going to be to the resolution of the film.
Great? No. Fun? Yes. I loved the build up to the rescue scene in the last 15 minutes of the movie.
