Moving Target
Someone orders a hit a on Commissioner Gordon. The first hit man who comes after the commissioner is stopped by Corrigan, but more hit men follow. Commissioner Gordon doesn't want to change his routine even though his daughter Barbara and Renee Montoya try to talk him into laying low for a while. They finally get him to concede when they point out that he's putting his neighbors in danger by staying put.
Batman investigates the case and finds out that a prisoner named Muller at Blackgate Prison is the one who ordered the hit. Batman passes along what he knows to Barbara Gordon.
Barbara, Montoya, Corrigan, and Commissioner Gordon are headed to a safe house when they are attacked by men in what looks like a police car.The fake police car misses a turn and goes over a cliff. The car that the Gordons and the other are in was damaged and stops functioning.
They make it by foot to Wayne Gardens, a housing community that is still under construction. They take refuge in the model home but it isn't long before more men show up looking to kill the commissioner.
Thoughts
The first would-be assassin is Floyd Lawton. That's the Deadshot in the comic books but he didn't look like supervillain in this episode.
Batman is in this episode. He plays a crucial role in the resolution of the story but this does not feel like his story. The main characters in this story are James and Barbara Gordon. The verbal sparring between them really helped to flesh out their relationship.
The fight scene in the kitchen of the model home was rock solid awesome. It was intense. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so convincing in a cartoon before.
The twists near the end of the episode worked for me. I thought for a split second that one of the good "guys" was actually going to die.
This episode was so good. It stirred up so many emotions. The bar just got raised a little higher.
