The crew of the Yamato plan for and begin an attack on the Gamila base on Pluto. It is the source of the planet bombs that have devastated Earth. The Gamilas aren't taken by surprise. They are more than ready for the Yamato.
The Gamilas use the weapon that is used to transform asteroids into planet bombs on the Yamato. The weapon fires from a fixed location and bounces its shots off of reflective satellites. The Yamato is taken by surprise.
Kodai leads a squadron of fighter craft that depart the Yamato before the Gamilas begin to attack it. Akira Yamamoto has finally received the transfer she wanted from accounting to the fighter squadron. Saburo Kato, who usually is in charge of the squadron turned down her numerous requests to join. He stoically accepts Kodai's decision.
Kaoru Niimi and Shiro Sanada experiment on the remains of the soldiers that tried to kill or abduct Mori and Kodai in the last episode. They seem to be machines, probably androids of some sort.
A couple devastating hits from the Gamila weapon badly damage the Yamato. Captain Okita orders the Yamato down into one of the seas on Pluto. The Gamilas hit the Yamato again. This time it sinks beneath the surface.
Notes
There is more than one type of Gamila. The ones running the base on Pluto are pale skinned but they report to blue skinned Gamilas.
Thoughts
The first real cliffhanger since the opening episode. I had a feeling that the attack on Pluto was going to take longer than a single episode. This is a decent episode but I probably should have watched the next episode as well.
