Do Not Resuscitate
Uncle Junior gets out of jail. He is required to wear a tracking device around his ankle and is under house arrest. That doesn't keep him from conducting business at his doctor's office. The feds can't bug his doctor's office. He wants Tony to make peace with his mother but Tony isn't willing to do so. He still thinks that his mother played Uncle Junior. He tells his uncle that but Junior is too proud to consider the possibility.
Janice continues to try and sweet talk her mother. She finally talks Tony into letting her keep the house and let her and their mother live there. Livia is suspicious of Janice and isn't shy about sharing her feelings. Livia seems delusional at times. Janice tries to be patient with her mother but towards the end of the episode it looks like she is planning to bump her off once she figures out where her money is hidden.
Jack Massarone, one of the Sopranos business associates, is having trouble with the local African-American community. Reverend James, Jr. is leading a protest because Massarone's construction business has yet to hire any African Americans workers. It turns out in the end to be a squeeze operation. The reverend is working for Tony. Massarone gets desperate and goes to Tony for help. Tony's helps for a fee. He gives a cut of the fee to the reverend.
The title of the episode refers to a Do Not Resuscitate order. Janice wants Tony, after talking to a nurse about it, to have a DNR in place for their mother. Tony refuses to do anything about it. AJ, Tony's son, overhears the discussion but doesn't understand what they are talking about. he asks his grandmother about it. He's writing a paper on DNA for school and thinks that DNR might be something like DNA.
Notes
Catherine Dent plays a federal prosecutor who is trying to keep Junior Soprano in jail. She was a regular member of the cast of The Shield, where she played Police Officer Danni Sofer. This is her one and only appearance on The Sopranos.
Thoughts
This was a decent but unspectacular episode, a bit of an in betweener. Things are building. I think that the joke is on Janice because I don't think that her mother has any money of any consequence hidden away.
