Work the Leg
The women of GLOW work extra hard to prepare for their next match. Justine invites Ruth to a showing of Gina the Machina, one of Sam's movies. Debbie loses her cool after seeing her Mark, her ex, with his new girlfirend.
Sam and Bash go to see Jeff, the TV exec who moved GLOW from the 10 AM to the 2 AM time slot. They learn that they've been replaced in their old time slot by a men's wrestling show. Bash gives the women a pep talk afterwards that helps to get them fired up. Carmen follows that up a day later with a rant of her own when she doesn't feel like the others are focused enough.
Ruth goes to see Sam's film and ends up sitting next to him. The theater isn't exactly packed. After the movie some of Justine's friends stop by to tell Sam how much they liked it. When he asks how they know Justine they explain that they are in AV club with her. After Justine's friends move on Ruth tells Sam about what happened with Jeff in 2.05 (Perverts Are People, Too). Sam isn't annoyed at Ruth. The next day he finds Jeff's car and bashes in the windshield with a tire iron.
Debbie tries to act cool when she sees Mark with his new girlfriend. She holds it together briefly but can't keep it in. She snorts some cocaine that she finds in Sam's office right before the match. This is after she takes a drink from a flask that Sam offers her. She gets into the ring high as a kite. Ruth, her opponent, can tell that something is wrong because Debbie isn't sticking with the plan. The episode ends with Debbie breaking Ruth's leg. The credits roll, for the first time, without any music.
This is it! This is what I am talking about! I love this episode. I love the mix of action in the ring with character development outside of the ring. There is one line in this episode that made me laugh out loud. The ending was brutal. I could see it coming before it happened. I wasn't 100 percent sure it was going to happen but I was pretty sure it was. If I remember correctly from the GLOW documentary there was a similar incident. The next one should be interesting.
