Nothing in This World Is Easy
Nadia's friend Maxine is throwing a birthday party for her. Nadia winds up leaving with Mike, a guy she met at the party. She takes him home with her, they have sex, he leaves. She runs out of cigarettes and goes to get more. Her cat has been missing for three days. She spots it on the way to the bodega. She steps into the street and gets hit by a cab and killed.
A moment passes and then she is alive again. She is back at the party in the same place she was when the episode opened: in the bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror. She knows something is wrong, she remembers being at the party before. She runs into Mike but doesn't take him home with her. She remembers him, but he doesn't remember her. She runs into John, her ex-boyfriend. She tells him about her cat that's missing. He offers to help her look for it.
They leave the party. She spots her cat again. She almost gets steps into the street and gets hit by a cab but John grabs her. They get into an argument and go their separate ways. Nadia finds her cat in a park. She carries it away with her. She sits on a railing near the river with the cat in her lap. She's happy but then she looks down and the cat it gone. She slips, falls backward into the river and drowns.
A moment passes and she's back in the bathroom looking at herself in the mirror. She spits up water and then leaves the bathroom. She goes back to the party, convinced now that something very strange is happening. She leaves the party, bumps into Mike and almost falls down a flight of stairs. He still doesn't remember her. She walks off into the night.
Thoughts
This was a great start. I'm very eager to see where the story goes from here. I like it but part of the story is the gimmick, so I'm a little skeptical as to whether it will deliver something that will satisfy me.
