Russian Doll 1.03

A Warm Body

Nadia wakes up. She survived the night. She didn't leave the party. She sees the sex pile just like she did in the previous episode. She considers leaving by the stairs but instead leaves by the fire escape. She takes a picture of a plaque on the wall of the building. It used to be a Yeshiva. She quizzes her friends and gets enough information to track down the Synagogue that used to own the building.

Nadia calls John and asks him for help. The rabbi won't talk to a woman. She needs him to pose as her husband. She offers sex in return for his assistance. He agrees. He questions the rabbi. She talks to the rabbi's secretary while waiting for John and the rabbi to finish up.

Nadia and John go back to her place afterwards for sex. She questions him after the sex. He still wants to believe that there is something worth salvaging in their adulterous relationship. She doesn't and her mind is on other things. He tells her that the rabbi said she is the abyss.

John leaves. Nadia goes to look for Oatmeal, her cat. She finds the homeless man she saw before. She talks to him. He wants to cut her hair. She lets him. They cuddle up under a blanket on the street. She freezes to death and wakes up back in the bathroom at the party.

Nadia goes looking for Horse, the homeless man. She finds him in the shelter where he told her he spent the night before. He doesn't recognize her. She keep her distance but she also keeps an eye on him. She prevents one of the other people staying at the shelter from stealing his shoes. He told her that's what happened when she last saw him.

The next morning she wakes up. She leaves, gets on an elevator. There's a man on the elevator who seems nervous. He has a box that looks like it might hold a ring. Maybe he's going to propose to someone? The elevator malfunctions and starts to drop rapidly. Everyone except Nadia and the man with the box get on the floor. She says they're about to die. He says it happens to him all the time.

Thoughts

Not a great episode but it ends with an interesting twist. This show still feels gimmicky to me. Will it pay off in the end or at least by the end of the season? I'm still not sure but I'm sticking with it.
