Russian Doll 1.02

The Great Escape

Nadia tries to figure out what's going on. She assumes at first that it is the cigarettes that Maxine brought to the party, the ones that were laced with cocaine. She tracks down the dealer who sold the cigarettes to Maxine. He doesn't have any information for her. She walks out, takes a spill down a sidewalk freight elevator shaft and dies once again.

She returns to the bathroom at the party once again. She leaves and goes to see the drug dealer again. This time he levels with her, there was ketamine in the cigarettes. She leaves and gets killed falling down the same elevator shaft.

She's back in the bathroom. She comes out, gives Maxine a hard time and tries leaving, 4 times. Each time she falls down the stairs and breaks her neck. Nadia gives up and enjoys the party, gets high, and passes out. She wakes up the next morning and gets some help leaving the apartment building, without killing herself, via the fire escape. Nadia goes to see Ruth and convinces her that she's going crazy.

Ruth calls an ambulance to take her to a mental institution. She gets into an argument with the paramedics in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The driver get distracted, the ambulance crashes and she is killed once again.

Nadia's had enough. She gives up on trying to figure it all out and just enjoys the party. John, her ex, walks in. She walks over to see him. She doesn't see it but at she walks past some flowers they wilt and possibly die.

Thoughts

I'm still into it. I'm glad to see that Nadia is evolving and hasn't figured it all out just yet. At the same time I remain a bit skeptical of a show that isn't showing it's hand. There is no explanation up to this point of why Nadia is experiencing death over and over again. Is it all a dream or is it real? I thought at one point she was going to commit suicide but she didn't. I wonder if it will ever come to that. I have no idea where this show is going next.
