The Sopranos 2.05

Big Girls Don't Cry

Christopher is taking an acting class. Adriana signed him up for it. It was a gift from her. The title of the class is Acting for Writers. He struggles with it. He has dreams of writing a particular kind of script and playing a particular kind of character. Ultimately he turns in a good performance but it seems to unleash something in him. The next time he works with the same scene partner he attacks the guy. The episode ends with him throwing out all the scripts he had written. I thought, at first, that he felt inspired to write something new but considering the note that it ends on I think I might be wrong about that.

Furio comes over from Italy, to work for Tony. It was part of the deal that Tony brokered with Annalisa when he was "on the other side" as they like to say. Tony also reorganizes things a little bit in his organization. Paulie is happy with the changes, Pussy not so much. He and Furio now report to Paulie.

Tony tries talking to Hesch. He seems to be using him as a proxy for Dr. Melfi. Hesch isn't a great listener. Everything that Tony says seems to bring up memories of his own that he wants to share. Dr. Melfi is still concerned about Tony. She can't stop thinking about the dream she had about him crashing his car.

She finally calls him. She offers to start seeing him once again. Tony acts on the phone as if he could care less. He's been having incidents of rage and shortness of breath but I guess he doesn't want to admit weakness. She keeps an hour open for him the next day and he shows up.

Artie and Charmaine Bucco make their first appearance since the end of the previous season. Tony pushes Artie to hire Furio. It helps Tony get Furio into the country legally.

Tony turns to Furio for help with collecting a debt when he isn't getting the results he needs from Christopher. Furio delivers the goods.

Johnny Sack makes a brief appearance which doesn't add up to a whole lot by itself but adds to Pussy's feeling that he doesn't have as much pull within Tony's organization as he once did. It is a fear which seems justified.

Uncle Junior shows up at a party that Tony has thrown for Furio but Carmela slams the door in his face.

Tony inadvertently finds out that Janet has applied for a loan and is using their mother's house as collateral. He goes over to see Janet and finds that Richie Aprile slept over the night before. He tries scaring Richie off but winds up throwing up his hands and walking out.

Big Girls Don't Cry is heard playing in the background, briefly, early in the episode at the Bucco's restaurant.

This was a good episode. Things are still building. There isn't a lot of resolution. Eventually chips are going to start falling but for now they are just shuffled around a bit.
