Horror of Fang Rock - Part 2
There are four survivors of the shipwreck. Three of them are passengers (Lord Palmerdale, Colonel Skinsale, Adelaide Lessage) and the other a crewman (Harker) is the coxswain. The Doctor and Leela learn that Lord Palmerdale is the one who pushed the now dead captain of the ship to go as fast as possible despite the fog. Palmerdale was trying to get back to London, from France, in time to complete a financial transaction. Harker doesn't feel very charitable towards Palmerdale considering how many men were just lost.
Leela sees something down on the rocks. She tells the Doctor. Reuben overhears and tells them that what she saw must be the beast of Fang Rock. The Doctor doesn't accept Reuben's theory. The Doctor and Leela go outside to investigate. They find some evidence but nothing to prove exactly what she saw. The Doctor's working theory is that there is an alien outside the lighthouse somewhere.
Reuben goes downstairs to put coal in the boiler. He's down there alone while everyone else is upstairs. They hear a scream and then the lights get dimmer.
Thoughts
I like this episode better than the first one. The addition of new characters and new conflicts helps to add some depth to the story. It is good to see that there is another woman in the story. Adelaide is Palmerdale's secretary although she hasn't been given much to do so far.
I still don't remember much about this story from the previous time I saw it 35 or more years ago.
