Terror of the Zygons - Part Four

The Zygons lock up the Doctor within their spaceship. They turn off all external communications and jam all radar in the UK. The Skarasen leaves Loch Ness and heads south, to London. The Doctor figures out how (from the room in which he is locked up) to cause the Zygon ship to emit a signal. UNIT picks up the signal and pinpoints the location of the Zygon ship.

The Doctor escapes from the Zygon space ship with the Duke of Forgill, the Caber, and Sister Lamont. Just before he departs the space shup he sets it to self-destruct. The Brigadier, Sarah, Harry, and Sgt Benton show up just in time to see the spaceship explode.

Terror of the Zygons - Part Three

Harry gets free from grip that the Zygons have over him. He rushes into their control room and throws himself on the controls. His efforts disrupt their efforts to kill the Doctor using the Skarasen. The signaling device no longer works and the Zygons no longer have a visual on the Doctor. They assume that he must be dead.

Sergeant Benton and some of the other UNIT soldiers search the inn for hidden cameras or microphones. They don't find any but the Zygons catch on to what they are doing thanks to one of the devices in the main room of the inn. Angus, the inn keeper, after Benton and the others have left finds one of the devices but one of the Zygons finds him and kills him before he can tell anyone about it.

Terror of the Zygons - Part Two

The Doctor rushes to the infirmary but Sarah and Harry have disappeared. The Doctor asks Sister Lamont, the nurse, but she didn't see them leave. The Doctor finds Sarah in a decompression chamber, passed out. Someone locks them both in the decompression chamber while he is trying to revive her. The Doctor puts Sarah in a deep trance to keep her from freaking out. He then places himself in a deep trance and stays like that until Sgt Benton finds them and frees them.

The Zygons take Harry to their base/space ship. They explain a little bit about why they are on Earth and what their plans are before they take him to the body print room and demonstrate how they can use body prints of humans to take on human appearance.

Terror of the Zygons - Part One

The Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan return to Earth. The TARDIS sets down in the wilderness in Scotland. They get a ride to the nearest town from the Duke of Forgill. There they meet up with the Brigadier who explains why he summoned the Doctor back to Earth. A couple North Sea oil rigs belonging to the Hibernia Oil Company have been recently been destroyed under mysterious circumstances.

The Duke of Forgill makes it very clear that he cares nothing for the oil company before leaving. Mr. Huckle, the local manager for the oil company, tells the Doctor, the Brigadier, Sarah, and Harry what he knows about the disasters. He's convinced that something weird is going on.

Christopher Barry: Director (2010)

19 minutes

Christopher Barry returns to Aldbourne, where much of The Daemons was filmed and talks about his life. He talks about his life before he got into the television and movie business and within the business. He seems to have mostly fond memories of his time working on Doctor Who. Aside from archival footage it was just Christopher Barry. There were a number of photographs of Barry from various stages of his life.

Barry directed four of the episodes of 1.02 The Daleks and all of 12.01 Robot. I've seen the other stories he directed that starred Tom Baker but not in recent years.

Doctor Who (1963) 8.05.05

The Daemons - Part Five

The Master laughs at Jo's protestations and orders his followers to prepare her to be sacrificed. Sergeant Osgood finally gets his act together and the Brigadier has him use the device he built using the Doctor's instructions. It allows them to get through the heat barrier that surrounds the village but it blows up not long after they have passed through the barrier.

Bok threatens the Doctor and the others outside the church. The Brigadier and his men distract Bok while the Doctor runs into the caverns below the church. The Doctor confronts the Master and Azal. He gets the Master's followers to release Jo. Azal offers to convey his power on the Doctor whom he considers to be more worthy than the Master. The Doctor refuses the offer which leads Azal to try and destroy him. Jo offers herself up for destruction in the Doctor's place. Azal is confused and self-destructs, taking the church and the caverns with him but not until after the Doctor, the Master, Jo, and the Master's followers have hightailed it out of there.

The Daemons - Part Four

The Master talks to Azal and begs to be made ruler of the Earth. Azal considers it but doesn't decide one way or the other.

Jo wakes up in bed and climbs out a window, with some help from a conveniently placed ladder, and goes looking for the Doctor. Mike Yates also goes looking for the Doctor. They both wind up in the basement of the church.

The Doctor gives Sgt Osgood instructions for breaking through the barrier surrounding the village. The Doctor returns to the village (while Osgood gets to work) where he is beset by murderous Morris dancers. They are working on orders from the Master and are ready to kill him until Miss Hawthorne and Sgt Benton step in and convince them that the Doctor is a great wizard.

The episode ends with Jo watching in horror in the basement of the church as the Master once again summons Azal.

The Daemons - Part Three

The Doctor scares off Bok, the gargoyle, with a piece of iron. It seems to believe that it has magical powers even though it doesn't. The Master is very disappointed.

The Doctor and Jo return to the village. The Doctor explains to Jo, Miss Hawthorne, Sgt Benton, and Captain Yeats about the forces that the Master is trying to call forth. It isn't the Devil or occult magic, as Miss Hawthorne seems to believe, but aliens who arrived on Earth 100,000 years ago.

The Master calls a meeting of the leading villagers. He explains to them that he needs their help. He promises to reward them if they will do his bidding. The Squire, one of the village elders decides he's had enough. The Master punishes his insolence by calling forth Bok who vaporizes the Squire.

The Daemons - Part Two

The Doctor and Professor Horner are caught in the outpouring of cold air from within the chamber that the professor opened up. The professor dies. The Doctor survives but goes into a coma. Jo gets the Doctor transported away from the site of the dig, Devil's Hump, and back to the village of Devil's End. He eventually recovers.

Jo gets in touch with Captain Yates and Sergeant Benton. They make their way to Devil's End the next morning in the Brigadier's helicopter. They see (from the air) what look like enormous hoofprints. They rendezvous with Jo who fills them in on what's been happening.

Sergeant Benton goes to have a look around town. He finds Olive Hawthorne tied up in the church. He unties her but then the deacon, who works for the Master, comes looking for them. Benton and the deacon get into a fight. Benton loses the fight after stepping on an evil spot in the basement of the church where the Master conducted a ceremony the night before.

Doctor Who (1963) 8.05.01

The Daemons - Part One

The Doctor gets very interested in the happenings at the Devil's Hump, the site of an archaeological dig.  He learns of it thanks to the coverage of the dig by a news team from BBC3. The Doctor suspects that Professor Horner, who is in charge of the dig, may unearth something that might cause quite a bit of trouble. The fact that the professor has chosen to do said unearthing on Beltane (May 1) seems to increase the Doctor's anxiety. He rushes with Jo Grant to get to the site of the dig before midnight, when Professor Horner plans to break through a wall that has remained intact for thousands of years.

Miss Hawthorne, a local white witch, also fears that the Horner might cause problems with his stunt. She turns to the local vicar for help. The Master, disguised as the vicar, tries to hypnotize her but her abilities prevent him from succeeding in that venture.

Cheques, Lies and Videotape (2009)

28 minutes

In 1983 the BBC released Revenge of the Cybermen on videocassette. It was the first Doctor Who story to be made available to the public in this format. Prior to the official release of Revenge of the Cybermen (on videocassette) fans had been trading videocassettes of episodes that other fans had tapes at home. A half dozen fans who lived through that time remember tell stories and recall what it was like.
