Watchmen (2019) 1.07

An Almost Religious Awe

The episode opens with a montage of scenes from the early life of John Osterman.

Angela continues to recover in Lady Trieu's care. She remembers things from her childhood, in Vietnam. She recalls the day her parents were killed, along with many others, by a suicide bomber. She wakes up from that memory only to find that she has fallen out of bed. She still has tubes connected to her arm. Lady Trieu helps her get back into bed.

Cal tries getting in to see Angela but he is turned away at the gate.

Agent Blake listens to recording she made of Angela talking while she was under the influence of Nostaglia. She pieces together much of the story of Will Reeves, his secret identity and his role in the death of Judd Crawford.

Agent Petey reports in to Agent Blake from Looking Glass' house. Looking Glass is missing but there are five bodies, all member so the Seventh Kavalry. Agent Blake doesn't have time to talk. She is at the Crawford residence. She gets off the phone and has a chat with Jane Crawford. Agent Blake lays her cards of the table. She hits a nerve. Jane lays her cards on the table, pulls out a device, presses some buttons, and Agent Blake falls through a trap door.

Angela gets a visit from Bian, Lady Trieu's daughter. She learns about Bian's nightmares. Anglea has another flashback to her time in Vietnam. This one takes place after the death of her parents. She is in an orphanage. She helps the police to identify one of the men responsible for aiding the suicide bomber. A police woman gives her a badge.

Adrian Veidt is put on trial for attempting to escape. A jury of his servants is supposed to decide the case but then the judge lets a bunch of pigs in the room and says that they will decide.

Angela has another chat with Lady Trieu. Angela wants to see her grandfather but Lady Trieu does not approve. She comments on Cal's amnesia due to a car accident. Angela learns that Lady Trieu's daughter is a clone of Lady Trieu's mother. Angela asks her about the Millennium Clock but Lady Trieu doesn't want to talk about it.

Agent Blake wakes up. She is tied to a chair. Senator Keene says something about becoming a blue man.

Angela breaks into the room where the tube in her arm leads. She is expecting to find Will, her grandfather. She finds an elephant at the other end of the tube. She removes the tube and passes out. She remembers when her grandmother came to Vietnam to get her.

Angela wakes up and goes to the basement. She runs into Lady Trieu, again. They talk, again. Lady Trieu says something about working with Doctor Manhattan. Angela leaves and goes home. The Seventh Kavalry are watching her house but she doesn't notice them. She rushes inside. Cal is there. They talk. She tells him that it is time to come out of the tunnel. He doesn't understand. She hits him in the head with a hammer, repeatedly and then pulls something out of his skull. She talks to to it and says that they have a problem.

Thoughts

Things are starting to come together, or at least that's the way it feels.

Cal's amnesia wasn't amnesia? Cal is/was Doctor Manhattan in disguise? She called him John. What is that thing that Angela pulled out of Cal's skull. Who was she talking to when she started speaking to it?

It looks like Agent Blake was a little overconfident. I can't think of anything else that would make her tell Jane as much as she did. I'm not sure what's going to happen to her now. I think that Senator Keene just wants her out of the way so he can move forward with his plan.

What is going to happen to Adrian Veidt? Where is he? Is he trapped in that statue? I can't help but feel that. Is that statue him?

What happened to Looking Glass? Where is Will Reeves? What happened to Angela after her grandmother died just as they were getting ready to leave Vietnam?

This episode seems to suggest a lot of things. I'm not sure where everything is going but is does feel like things are coming together.
