Crash Landing on You 1.03

Episode 3

Ri Jeong-hyuk shows up just in time to save Yoon Se-ri from Jo Cheol-gang, his boss, who has been conducting a suprise inspection of the town. Jeong-hyuk tells his boss that Se-ri is his fiancée. Jeong-hyuk can't tell them anything more than that because, as he explains it, she works for Division 11, which means that she is a North Korean spy.

Jo Cheol-gang is suspicious of this answer but he lets it slide, for now. Later he assigns one of his men to learn what he can about Jeong-hyuk's fiancée using electronic surveillance. The women of the village want to know more about Se-ri, who gets very angry when she overhears them saying bad things about her.

Se-ri gets ready to leave. She gives awards to Jeong-hyuk's men who have been helping her. There is an incident with a young homeless boy who tries to steal from Jeong-hyuk's house. Se-ri and Jeong-hyuk's men chase the boy down. Se-ri insists on giving him food.

Se-ri's family continues to argue over what they should do about the situation. Her brothers (and their wives) are ready to write off Se-ri as dead. One of Se-ri's employees thinks that she might have survived the storm after reading about a similar parasailing incident in Australia.

Seo Dan, a woman who claims to be Jeong-hyuk's fiancée, returns from Moscow. Goo Seung-joon continues to hide out in North Korea. Jo Cheol-gang goes to meet Seung-joon, who isn't interested in talking to him until he threatens to break the promises he made to keep him safe.

The episode ends aboard a small fishing vessel. Jeong-hyuk, Se-ri, and the owner of the boat are the only ones aboard. He is taking them out to meet another boat that will take Se-ri back to South Korea but things don't work out. A North Korean coast guard vessel pulls up alongside and sailors board the ship. Se-ri and Jeong-hyuk are hiding in the hold. Jeong-hyuk does the only thing that he can think of and kisses Se-ri when the hold is opened.

Thoughts

The best part of this show is still the interpersonal moments with Se-ri and Jeong-hyuk and his men. The interactions of the women in the village runs a close second. I'm curious to see what happens when Seo Dan meets Se-Ri.

There was some indication in this episode that Goo Seung-joon used to work for the Yoon family and that he is on the run from them. There is a scene where one of Se-ri's brothers talks to someone about Seung-joon. Maybe this isn't news but I missed it in the first two episodes.

I'm still enjoying the show. It isn't very heavy. I'm still on board, unsure if I will watch it all but I'm going to continue to watch it slowly.
