Quick Change (1990)

Quick Change (1990)

starring Bill Murray, Geena Davis, Randy Quaid, Jason Robards
directed by Howard Franklin and Bill Murray

88 minutes

Grimm (Bill Murray), Phyllis (Geena David), and Loomis (Randy Quaid) rob a bank in Manhattan. They evade the police by pretending to be hostages that the bank robbers have released. They plan to catch a flight out of the country with the money they have taken but getting to the airport proves to be problematic. Ratzinger (Jason Robards), the police detective in charge at the scene of the robbery tries to catch the robbers as they inch their way toward the airport.

Thoughts

What do this movie and Citizen Kane have in common? They are both directorial debuts. That's were the similarities begin and end.

Tony Shaloub and Stanley Tucci are both in this movie in relatively minor parts. They don't have any scenes together. They would later go on to work together on Big Night (1996). Phil Hartman is in this movie very briefly. Kurtwood Smith is in the last 10 minutes of this film, playing a character who was referenced earlier in the movie.

This is the one and only thing, television or movie, that Bill Murray has directed, according to IMdB.

There are a few laughs in this movie but for the most part the performances felt very uninspired.

I could care less about spoiling the ending to this movie but I just don't feel like taking the time to do it.

I'm pretty sure I saw this movie before, about 30 years ago, although I didn't remember much about it other than Bill Murray in the clown suit and the robbery. I didn't even remember seeing it until I got a ways into it. I hoped it would be better than it was. On the whole I would say it is kind of meh. It does not earn the 6.8 rating it has on IMdB.
