Le choix des armes
or Choice of Weapons
23 Oct 1941
Marcel is tasked with obtaining a gun for the communist cause. He works with Suzanne to make it happen. She puts him in touch with Madame Estabet who cleans the brothel that the German officers visit. Madame Estabet gives him the key to the service entrance. He uses it to sneak in and steal a German officer's gun while the officer is in bed with one of the prostitutes.
Sarah helps Daniel figure out that supplies are not reaching their destination. He goes to Servier who is resistant to moving too quickly to figure out what is going on. Daniel turns to DeKervern for help. DeKervern has been suspended but Larcher deputizes him to shake down the men whom he sees taking supplies.
Hortense tells Daniel she is having an affair with Muller. He is angry but doesn't do anything to try and stop her.
Kurt asks Lucienne to marry him. He has just received orders sending him back to Germany. He wants her to come with him. She is flustered and doesn't know how to respond. He gives her the rest of the day to decide.
Beriot receives a letter informing him that Lucienne has been sleeping with a German soldier. He burns it. Jeannine stops by his office later that day to apologize for the way she acted at the cake contest. She notices the partially burned letter in the trash. She goes home and writes a letter to Kollwitz.
Marie turns to Raymond for help. He offers her a job. He then goes to Cremieux and asks him to hire Marie. He explains in part why he can't hire her but he doesn't tell Cremieux the whole truth. Cremieux tells him that a French policeman came by looking for Caberni. The policeman later comes to see Raymond who doesn't tell the whole truth, once again.
The man that DeKervern arrests turns out to be the nephew of Servier. The man claims he was working for Caberni. Daniel suggests that it must be Caberni who was behind the black market activity. Daniel gives Servier a way to save face and save his nephew from serving time in prison.
Daniel is called to Kollwitz's office. It is about the stolen pistol. During the meeting he is told to talk to Muller. Daniel responds by revealing that Muller is sleeping with his wife.
Lucienne decides to accept Kurt's marriage proposal. She tells him yes. He tells her to meet him the next day at 10 AM. When she gets there he is nowhere to be found.
Marcel turns the stolen gun over to Suzanne. Muller conducts the investigation into the matter of the stolen pistol. He quickly focuses in on Madame Estabet. She is tortured with cigarettes. She claims not to know anything. Muller threatens her son's life. She talks and tells him that Marcel Larcher is the one who used her key to steal the pistol.
Thoughts
Jeanine sure knows how hold a grudge. I can't believe that Hortense is continuing to pursue her relationship with Muller. I've got a feeling that eventually she will regret it. I thought for a moment that Servier might have something to do with the black market activity. I'm not certain that he doesn't. Marcel is in big trouble. I'm not sure what comes next for him. I've got a feeling that Kurt is out of the picture for good. I'm not sure what is up next for Lucienne. I was happy to see that they are starting to deal with the disappearance of Caberni.
This was a good episode. There were a number of tense and intense moments.
