The O'Connors, his siblings' neighbors, are having marital problems. Nightclub owner Nicky Toresca (Robert Alda) keeps pressing her for companionship. Petey falls for jazz musician San Thomas who still hasn't gotten over his ex-wife and is now serving in the merchant marines.

Thoughts

I saw this movie as part of the 2026 Noir City DC film festival at the AFI Silver Theater. I had not seen it before. Eddie Muller, the Czar of Noir, introduced the movie.

There are a lot of actors in this movie and a lot of subplots but this is Ida Lupino's movie. I don't care what it says on IMDb, she doesn't have one or two co-stars. She is the one and only star of this film.

On the whole I think this movie is not bad, not great, and not really noir. It is a bit all over the place. The music is good although I wouldn't put the music on the same level as in Blues in the Night (1941). Ida Lupino singing was dubbed over with another singer's vocals.

Notes

I have seen both Ida Lupino and Robert Alda on other movies before. Other actors that were in this movie that I have seen in other movies include Andrea King, Martha Vickers, Bruce Bennett, Alan Hale, John Ridgely, Don McGuire, William Edmunds.

I have seen a few other movies that Raoul Walsh directed.
