For Pete's Sake
Luke doesn't call Danny. Instead he leads the small group (Mariah, his father, Misty, and D) that just escaped the shootout at Mother's Touch to a building owned by Danny's company. The building is still under construction but mostly complete. Luke gets them in the door and then they hunker down. On second thought, maybe he did contact Danny. How else would he have known the pass code to get in the building? Hmmm...
Misty wants Mariah to testify against McIver. Mariah wants immunity from everything she is currently accused of doing which includes selling high tech weaponry that fire Judas rounds. Misty balks but Luke talks her into going along with it. She leaves the building and makes it back to the police precinct. She meets with Deputy Chief Ridley who gets the district attorney to agree to the deal. This is Ridley's first appearance since 1.13 (You Know My Steez) when she was still Inspector Ridley.
There are a lot of little character moments in this episode. Most of them take place in the Rand building while they hide out. Mariah sweet talks Luke's father. She gets her hands on his cell phone and after getting away from him she tries calling Shades but he doesn't pick up. Matilda asks her what she's up to.
Matilda and Mariah share a moment that lasts about 10 minutes of viewing time. It is an intense moment. Matilda thought she knew why her mother was so emotionally distant from her. Mariah laughs at her daughter's theory and then tells her secrets that she had never shared with her before. She tells her things she never knew about her father and then reveals that he wasn't her biological father. Matilda is left in tears, disgusted to learn of what happened to her mother and who did it.
Bushmaster continues his search for Mariah, Luke, and friends. He searches Mother's Touch but all the nightshade is gone. He needs more. He increases the price on Luke's and Mariah's heads. He gets some help from Detective Tyler. She overheard Misty and Ridley talking about the immunity deal for Mariah.
Misty returns with the paperwork for Mariah to sign. She signs but then Bushmaster shows up with his crew. They attack the building. Luke jumps out and takes on McIver one-on-one in front of the building. Misty and Mariah fight Bushmaster's troops who make it into the building. For the first time Luke prevails over Bushmaster and the cops show up and haul McIver away in handcuffs. He is taken away in a paddy wagon but escapes thanks to a small bomb that the police must have missed when they searched him.
Matilda makes it back to Mother's Touch only to discover McIver and Sheldon, his lieutenant, waiting for her. Bushmaster is in bad shape and needs her healing touch. She claims she doesn't have enough Nightshade to get the job done. Sheldon tells her that if his boss dies then she will too.
Shades finds Mariah wandering the streets with the assault rifle she took off one of McIver's men and used to kill a few of them. She swears she's done playing it safe.
This is a decent but not great episode. The best scene is the confrontation between Mariah and Matilda. I had a feeling I knew what was coming once Mariah started talking about Uncle Pete but it still disturbed me when I saw the way the scene played out. Even though Luke and Misty are in this one, it feels as though Mariah is the main character of this episode.
