Dreams Stay With You
Valerie runs into some obstructions on her way to opening a wine shop. John, the owner or manager of the restaurant where Laura works, tries to help out but he is also interested in Valerie. He takes a look at the space which she has started to fix up, for her shop. He points out one problem and then invites her to a social event which will include some important people in the local wine industry. Before going to the event Val gets a notice that her liquor license is being held up.
Leia finds out that she is not pregnant. She has mixed feelings. She admits to Leon that she felt relieved when she found out she wasn't. Leon has a hard time hearing that.
Byron, the guy from Val's writing class with whom she a fling early in the third season, is at the social event. He has opened a cheese shop. He can't get over how it ended between them. Val ends up telling him that she's with John now. It doesn't make Byron back off and shes winds up having to tell John about the story she fed Byron. John drives Val home afterwards. Nothing happens but he does admit that he hoped something would. They agree to do it again.
Laura makes a cooking video with some help from a friend. She gets an offer from someone who is putting together a network of videos, who wants Laura to make videos for the network. She needs to get her boss, not John, at the restaurant to sign a waiver. Her boss rudely says no. Laura accepts the rejection at first but after she sees her boss berating one of her coworkers she walks off the job.
Alex goes on a trip, of two sorts. He goes camping and takes a designer hallucinogen while listening to a guided meditation from Bill Walton. It doesn't seem like the drug is working until he slips and falls. He has an encounter with his father, who died at the end of season 2. At first his father tried to pretend like he was someone else. Eventually he owns up to who he is and then brings up the subject of Alex' childhood insecurities. Alex loses it and starts screaming at his father, who then disappears. Alex returns home and tells Rae that he is in love with her.
Better than the last episode. Much better. Lots of things seemed to come unraveled.
