UnReal 3.09

Codependence

Serena spends time in a sweat lodge with each of the three remaining men. Not much happens with Jasper. August strips naked and she follows suit. Owen talks to her about a horrible memory he has from his time in Iraq.

Rachel desperately tries to connect with someone after Dr. Simon questions whether she has any friends or a life outside of her job. Serena suggests that Rachel should come and work for her after the season is over. It sounds very tempting but by the end of the episode Rachel has pulled some tricks that probably sank any chance there was of Serena following through on that offer.

Everlasting has a big charity event. The three men have to compete to raise money. Quinn wants Serena to pick either Owen or Jasper to be her date but Serena picks August. Gary shows up for the event and tells Quinn that he is going to fire her in the middle of the event on live TV. Quinn had all kinds of incriminating evidence on her computer that Gary embezzled money from the studio and Everlasting but then discovers that it is all gone.

Quinn manages to evade getting fired by having Rachel create a distraction which gets Gary off the stage. Rachel fools Jeremy into showing Owen video of August bad mouthing the military. Owen confronts August who unintentionally triggers Owen by saying something that feeds directly into a memory that he has of his time in Iraq.

Owen attacks August. Once the two men are pulled apart the rest of the fundraising event is dedicated to veterans like Owen. This is a little odd because the way it is presented it looks like Quinn had that planned from square one but she didn't know exactly what Rachel was going to do to create a distraction. At the elimination ceremony Owen volunteers to eliminate himself but Serena eliminates August instead.

Rachel has a number of weird encounters with Dan, one of the other members of the crew of Everlasting. He looks real uncomfortable every time Rachel tries to hang out with him. It peaks when she drags him into a store room and starts making out with him. That scene fizzles when he admits that he is scared of her, but it was funny.

The episode ends with a number of moments, as usual. Chet is ready to leave his age inappropriate girlfriend for Quinn, but she tells him no. This is after they had sex just after the girlfriend visited Chet on the set. Jay confronts Rachel about Alexi. Quinn fires Madison for wiping her computer of the information she needed to ruin Gary. Gary thanks Fiona for turning on Quinn and helping him to eliminate the information on Quinn's computer. Jeremy confronts Rachel about how she manipulated him once again.

This is a decent episode but it isn't my favorite. I'm still curious to see how things turn out. I was right about it coming down to Owen and Jasper. Who will she pick? I can't see her picking Jasper. I can see her picking Owen but then something happens to cause him to walk away. This season hasn't been as good as the previous ones but I'm still enjoying it to some degree. It has felt a little too light weight compared to the previous ones. A little too flip at times. I'm still curious to see how it turns out. Whether I like the final episode of the season or not I'm not going to leap into season 4 right away. It might be a while before I come back for the final season, if I do.
