Captain Harlock (1978) 1.18

The Evil Shadow Soldiers

The Arcadia nears the Horse Head Nebula. Shadows start to appear on board the Arcadia. They look like Mazone warriors. Chief Engineer Maji is convinced that one of them is Midori, his daughter. Everyone on board thinks the shadows are real until Miime shows them that they are not.

The shadows start to appear again but this time they are tangible. Captain Harlock kills one of the Mazone. He tries to kill a second one but Maji blocks the captain from getting a clear shot at the Mazone that the chief engineer believes is his daughter.

The Mazone that looks like Midori flees the ship. Maji pursues her. He catches up to her on a Mazone planet. There he learns the to accept the truth. Maji returns to the Arcadia. The Mazone attack. Maji has changed. He singlehandedly destroys the Mazone ship that attacks the Arcadia.

Thoughts

The baby Mazone in this episode were really creepy looking. 

I don't understand how Maji got back to the Arcadia. I figured the Mazone were going to kill him. It was really kind of surprising how one second he was on the planet and the next he was back on the Arcadia.

Schitt's Creek 1.10

Honeymoon

David and Stevie had sex. Johnny finds out about it and soon Moira and Alexis also know. Alexis and Ted throw a party. Alexis tells David to bring Stevie. Mutt and Twyla are also invited.

Johnny and Moira get themselves invited to a Hawaiian themed party that Roland and Jocelyn throw. There are lots of other people there. Johnny and Moira wind up smoking a joint with Roland and Joceyln at the party.

David and Stevie leave early from Alexis and Ted's dinner party. They run into Johnny and Moira when they get back to the motel. Johnny and Moira are still high.

The Evolution of Jack

The Gendy Tartakovsky and some of the members of his team talk about how Season 5 came to be. The way it is presented makes it feel like it is a teaser for Season 5. I probably would have gotten more out of this short by watching it before watching Season 5 but it also has minor spoilers. I was a bit surprised at how short it is but it makes sense considering how it seems like it is a preview of the season rather that a look back at the season.

Hadoke versus HAVOC (2013)

Toby Hadoke meets the surviving members of the HAVOC stunt team that worked on Inferno and other Doctor Who stories. The four HAVOC veterans are Derek Ware (who started the team), Roy Scammell (whose specialty was falling from great heights), Derek Martin, and Stuart Fell. They worked as a group on several Third Doctor stories. Martin and Fell occasionally worked on Doctor Who as stuntmen, fight arrangers, and actors after HAVOC broke up. Hadoke talks to each man individually and then comes together with all four of them to get some pointers before he attempted a stunt himself.

There is a fair number of clips from Doctor Who episodes that the HAVOC team worked on.

The Daleks' Master Plan Documentary

Only three of the episodes (2, 5, 10) are known to still exist but there are sound recordings of all 12+1 episodes. Clips from Loose Cannon's recreations of the missing episodes are also included in this documentary.

Episode 2

Arnold and Lewellyn fall asleep at the breakfast after the wedding. Clive and Maud leave before her new hatband and his camera man wake up. Arnie rings Maud later on to talk. She has returned to her parents' house. The conversation doesn't go well and Arnold winds up hanging up Maud.

Arnold signs some deals and some actors, Corky Brown is one of them. Max Legendre, Brown's manager, insists on getting a piece of Arnold's company. Arnold also tries to talk Galloway, an old friend who knows how to develop film, into working for him.

Arnold and Llewellyn eventually find the house where Maude lives. She doesn't let him just walk in and take over. It looks like he will be sleeping alone until Maude surprises him and sneaks into his bed.

Captain Harlock (1978) 1.17

The Skeleton Hero

The Arcadia heads back to Earth and picks up Mayu. She gets a few hours aboard the ship before she has to return to the boarding school. She spends it running around and having fun.

The Arcadia drops off Mayu and then takes off. They find a bottle floating out in space with a message in it from Captain Yamanaka. He was an old but respected adversary of Captain Harlock. Maji, one of Yamanaka's former crew men, is now the chief engineer aboard the Arcadia.

Maji tells the story of how he was loyal to Captain Yamanaka but his life changed when he met Aki, the love of his life. Maji and Aki got married and had a daughter. Everything was going great for Maji until Captain Yamanaka came to see him. He asked Maji to leave his wife and come with him. Yamanaka insisted that Aki was an alien.

Schitt's Creek 1.09

Carl's Funeral

Carl, Bob's brother, has passed away. Bob, who tried to sell Johnny his car in the previous episode, asks Johnny to be a pall bearer. Johnny lies and says he can't because he has a bad back but then he gets his arm twisted into saying a few words at the funeral. Bob claims that Carl really looked up to Johnny.

Alexis goes to stay with Ted when some suspect looking neighbors move in next door. Ted, the veterinarian, has two dogs staying with him temporarily. The dogs freak Alexis out.

The new neighbors turn out to be cousins of Stevie.

Samurai Jack 5.10

CI

Aku is ready to kill Jack but he can't decide how to do it. Many of the people whom Jack helped over the years show up and attack Aku's stronghold. They are mere gnats to Aku but they distract him. Jack gets free but then Ashi, in her new form, attacks Jack. She prevents him from getting to his sword. She and Jack fight while Jack's friends fight with Aku.

Many of Jack's friends are killed. Ashi finally pounces on Jack. He is absorbed into her form. He finds that she is still alive in there. She has given up all hope until he finally tells her that he loves her. Ashi reasserts control over her new body. She gets Jack his sword and then uses her powers to transport them back in time to the moment just after Aku flung Jack into the future.

Jack fights with and kills Aku. The day is saved. Jack and Ashi prepare to get married but on their wedding day she collapses. She cannot exist if Aku was killed in her distant past. She fades to nothing. Jack is left alone.

Investors Dinner

The Party Down crew works a meeting for investors that is hosted by Tony Carolla. He is trying to get people with money to buy into investing in a housing community in Tiajuana.

Henry and Casey are still trying to decide where they stand with one another. Ron decides to buy into Tony's investment in real estate.

Constance brings a prop gun to work. It was used on the set of Beretta which leads to lots of arguments between Constance, Kyle, and Roman about why the show was called Beretta.

Rupert has faith in Jerry until he shows up at Jerry's house unannounced. Jerry angrily kicks Rupert out. Rupert, with some help from Masha (Sandra Bernhard), a woman who has like Rupert been ignored by Jerry, kidnaps the talk show host.

Flickers 1.01

Episode 1

This show is set in the early 20th century in the early days of movies in the UK.

Arnold Cole has a small operation renting and showing movies, in the UK, in the early 20th century. He has plans to improve his operation but he needs money in order to make his move. He wants to make his own movies instead of renting them from others.

Arnold turns to Clive and Maud, siblings, for the money. Maude asks a few questions of Arnold. She doesn't think much of him but ultimately she talks her father into converting part of the space in his department store into a theater.

Things don't work out for Arnold when a fire breaks out in the department store during a screening. Things don't work out for Maude when she finds out that the man she's been seeing is irresponsible and has gotten her pregnant.

Maud needs a husband. Arnold needs money. She suggests that they get married. They talk it over and he eventually decides that marrying Maud is in his best interests, so they do.

Outlaw Star 1.12

Mortal Combat with the El Dorado

Gene and company head to the Lione Lagrange Point and search for the El Dorado, the MacDougall's spaceship. There is lots of interference from solar flares and asteroids that makes the search difficult and tedious. 

The El Dorado eventually shows up but it doesn't confront the Outlaw Star directly. It keeps circling around, behind asteroids. It shoots lots of missiles that keep the crew of the Outlaw Star on edge. Aisha encourages Gene to do something.

Gene gives Aisha a gun and a spacesuit and drops her off on an asteroid. She spots the El Dorado, contacts the others, and then the Outlaw Star moves in. The two ships engage in close combat with grappler arms. Gene boards the Eldorado and finds Harry MacDougall.

Harry stalls for time. He tries to hack the Otlaw Star's computer system. Gene figures out he's up to something and destroys the link he is using to hack the Outlaw Star. Harry and his small crew escape. Gene realizes that there wasn't just one El Dorado but two.

Allez-Vous

Moira and David try to sell Allez-Vous Cosmetics. They throw a party to which they invite some of the people they know. They are unable to sell anything. It turns out that everyone already has Allez-Vous products. They used to sell them to one another.

Alexis and Ted hang out together. She thinks he is too nice. She gets annoyed when he doesn't send back his food when Twyla brings him home fries instead of toast.

Johnny has an appointment at the unemployment office. He tries to borrow Roland's truck but winds up finding an alternate means of transportation. He winds having to turn to Roland for help when his wheels break down. Johnny finally gets to the unemployment office only to discover that he doesn't qualify for unemployment.

Samurai Jack 5.09

C

Jack and Ashi are both embarrassed and act as if they should not have kissed. They clean up. Ashi finds some clothes to wear in the prison ship. Jack puts his gi back on. He tells her a little bit about his past.

Ashi wakes up the next morning. Jack is gone. He is trekking through the desert on foot. He gets to an area that looks familiar. He is exploring the area when Ashi catches up to him. She is angry at him for leaving.

Jack and Ashi don't get to speak for very long before Aku and Scaramouche show up. Aku is feeling like his old self ever since Scaramouche told him that Jack lost his sword. Aku's mood dims momentarily when he sees that Jack has his sword.

Aku smells something that smells like himself. It is Ashi that he smells. He realizes that she is his daughter. He forces her to fight Jack. When she doesn't seem to be making any progress he transforms her into a being like himself, but faceless.

Doctor Who (1963) 6.05.06

The Seeds of Death - Episode Six

The Doctor bangs on the locked door to the weather station. Jamie and Zoe want to help him but they also have to avoid the Ice Warrior. Jamie distracts the Ice Warrior and Zoe unlocks the door for the Doctor

Some guards show up to deal with the Ice Warrior but their guns are ineffective against it. They wind up running away. The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe rig together a weapon to deal with the Ice Warrior. The Doctor uses it to kill the Ice Warrior.

Miss Kelly puts together a satellite that send out a signal to pull the incoming invasion fleet off course. They launch it into orbit. The Doctor uses T-Mat to return to the moon. He kills another Ice Warrior. He turns down the volume on the Ice Warriors signaling device but then he is captured by the last two Ice Warriors.

Jamie uses T-Mat to travel to the moon and helps the Doctor deal with the last two Ice Warriors. The Ice Warrior invasion fleet gets drawn off course and into an orbit that will pull them close to the sun.

The Phil Silvers Show 2.09

A Mess Sergeant Can't Win

Bilko tries to make amends with a colleague of his, Rupert Ritzik, when he learns that Ritzik has decided not to re-enlist. Bilko is galled when he learns that Ritzik doesn't want him at his going away party. Bilko raises $400 for Ritzik and his wife but Ritzik thinks it is a trick and refuses to take the money.

Bilko is determined to give him the money and cooks up a scheme, a sucker bet which he plans to lose. Ritzik somehow manages to lose the bet. Bilko arranges another sure fire bet but Ritzik gets so nervous he bets the wrong way and loses that one too.

Problem Child (1990)

Ben (John Ritter) and Flo Healy (Amy Yasbeck) adopt Junior (Michael Oliver) without knowing about his past. He is 7 years old and in an orphanage at the time. The nuns running the orphanage are more than happy to get rid of him. Igor Peabody (Gilbert Gottfried), the social worker who facilitates the adoption, doesn't tell them everything there is know about Junior.

Junior has a pen pal, Martin Beck (Michael Richards) aka the Bow Tie Killer, who is in prison. Beck breaks out of prison and goes looking for Junior, whom he thinks is a convict named J.R.

Ben does his best to raise Junior. He takes him camping, takes him to a birthday party for another kid in the neighborhood, and puts him on the little league baseball team that he manages. Junior terrorizes everyone he meets. Ben almost returns Junior to the orphanage but at the last minute he decides he can't do that.

Beck, the bow tie killer, makes his way to the Healy house. He kidnaps Junior and Flo, and leaves a note for Ben telling him he's going to have to pay $100,000 if he wants them back.

The Batman (2022)

Batman (Robert Pattinson) works with police officer James Gordon (Jeffery Wright) to figure out who killed the mayor, the police commissioner, and the district attorney of Gotham City. Batman crosses paths Selina Kyle (Zoe Kravitz), a burglar who is investigating the death of her friend. He also crosses paths with the Penguin (Colin Farrell), an enforcer for mob boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). He convinces Kyle to help him infiltrate the mob's most important nightclub. Batman receives clues throughout the movie from the killer who is eventually revealed to be the leader of a gang that has even bigger plans.

The Invaders 1.13

Storm

David Vincent travels to St. Matthew Beach, FL looking for Dr. Gantley, a scientist who has been investigating an out of season hurricane. Vincent suspects that the Invaders might have something to do with the storm. Gantley is killed by Invaders while investigating the Lydia J, a boat, before David gets a chance to talk to him.

David Vincent makes contact with Father Corelli, a friend of Dr. Gantley. The priest leaves suddenly after he learns of his friend's death. David stays behind in the church where he is attacked by a couple of Invaders. He kills one of them with one of their high tech weapons. The other one is getting ready to kill David Vincent when they get interrupted.

Outlaw Star 1.11

Adrift in Subspace

Gene and the crew of the Outlaw Star just barely escape the storm of debris. They make their way to the first rest point. Gene finds Harry MacDougall and confronts him over his part in trying to kill them at Farfallas. Harry plays dumb but Gene isn't buying it. He only backs off after security shows up.

The El Dorado, the MacDougall brothers' ship, takes off before the Outlaw Star. Gene tries chasing it, unsuccessfully. They get a distress call from someone who was forced to abandon ship. Jim wants to let the race officials help the stranded person but Gene insists that they help him. The stranded person turns out to be Aisha Clan-Clan. The don't have a choice at this point so they take her with them.

They don't see any sign of the El Dorado. Someone fires missiles at the Outlaw Star, just as they are getting ready to jump into hyperspace. It is too late to abandon the jump. the missiles impact just before they start the jump. Gene is forced to cut the engine while they are still in mid-jump.

The Outlaw Star and its crew survive the jump but two of the four engines are damaged. Gene comes up with a hairbrained scheme to make up lost time. Aisha Clan-Clan approves of the daring plan. It works and for a minute it seems like they will finish in 3rd place but at the last second someone beats their time.

Turkey Shoot

Ted, the veterinary, asks Alexis out on a date. She agrees. Mutt pokes fun at her the next day about how it went. Jocelyn takes Moira to a salon. Moira comes back with hair that looks like in belongs on Jocelyn's head. David goes on a turkey shoot, with Stevie, that is organized by Roland.

Thoughts

This was a fun episode even though it wasn't the funniest.

Samurai Jack 5.08

XCIX

Jack and Ashi visit a market where the food looks delicious to Jack but not to Ashi. They catch a ride on a giant creature only to discover that the other passengers on the creature want to kill them. They attempt to cross a great desert on foot but a sandstorm forces them to search for cover. They find it in a crashed spaceship.

The shelter turns out to be the remnant of a prison ship. The ship's most dangerous inmate has escaped from it's cell and comes after them. It is an organism that is made up of lots of little leach-like creatures. Jack and Ashi run from it but are unable to find their way back out of the prison ship.

The pair locate a control room and a device that should help them to neutralize the creature pursuing them. The creature eventually catches up to them. Jack can't figure out how to activate the device. He tries, she tries, until finally, somehow, the device gets activated and fries all the little leach-like critters.

The Seeds of Death - Episode Five

The Ice Warrior is about to kill Zoe when Fewsham attacks it. He is unable to overpower the alien but he distracts it long enough. The rising temperature gets to the Ice Warrior and it collapses.

The Ice Warrior that was looking for the others also gets struck down by the rising temperatures. The Doctor wakes up. They all go to the main control room. Fewsham helps, the Doctor, James, Zoe, and Miss Kelly return to Earth via T-Mat. He says he will follow them but he doesn't.

The Ice Warrior that is on Earth goes to the weather control station. It kills the technician on duty and then turns his gun on the weather control device, rendering it useless.

The Doctor works with Professor Eldred to learn about the fungus that is is spreading on Earth. The discover that what they need is a massive amount of rain. The Doctor asks Zoe and Jamie to contact the weather station. They head to the station when they can't reach anyone on the phone.

Third Rock from the Sun 4.06

I Am Dick Pentameter!

Dick's relationship with Jennifer Ravelli takes off. He quickly starts to see her flaws and has second thoughts about dating her. She insists on ryming everything he says. Mary gets angry at Dick for moving on so quickly.

Sally, Harry, and Tommy get it in their heads to start moving the furniture in the apartment around. They invent the Kliving-chin, a mash-up of the living room and the kitchen. Jennifer thinks it is great but Dick can't stop thinking about Mary.

Thoughts 

This was another good one. Dick's part of the episode was funnier to me, lots better than the other one, but I enjoyed them both.

Counterpart 1.10

No Man's Land, Part Two

Howard Prime escapes the building in the aftermath of the attack. Angel Eyes, the attacker who made it into the crossing is still alive. He makes his way to the wall but people from both sides leave him there.

Clare's father gives a statement to the press that there was just one attacker, a disgruntled employee. Peter and Clare, both survived the crash. She has bruises and cuts but nothing too serious. She heads home after she has been bandaged. He has his arm in a sling but he is able to leave the hospital later that day. She advises him to go straight into the office once he leaves the hospital, which he does. 

Groups meet on both sides to discuss what happened in the Alpha universe and what to do about it. Emily and Ian, in the Prime universe, report their finding about the school to the meeting. Peter is in the meeting on the Alpha side. Upper management, which participates in the meeting through an intermediary, turns to Peter for his opinion. He recommends doing nothing. Both sides decide to do the same thing, nothing.

My Man Godfrey (1936)

Godfrey (William Powell), a homeless man, helps Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard) win a scavenger hunt and thereby beat her older sister Cornelia (Gail Patrick). Irene still lives at home with her parents and her sister. Irene hires Godfrey to be the family's butler. She quickly falls for him. He does what he can to dissuade her. 

Cornelia doesn't like Godfrey and tries to get him fired by framing him. Her plan falls through. Irene continues to carry a torch for Godfrey even after she learns that he has a wife and five children. The wife and kids turn out to be the fictitious creations of Tommy, a friend of Godfrey, but Irene doesn't find out the truth until very late in the movie.

Outlaw Star 1.10

Gathering for the Space Race

The Outlaw Star arrives at Heifong. Gene and Jim look into entering the space race. The entry fee is considerably more money than they have. They turn to Fred Luo for help. Fred agrees to pay their entry fee but it will be deducted from their winnings. They have to finish in the top three in order to win enough to cover the entry fee.

Gene looks for signs of the MacDougall ship. He doesn't spot it until it is too late to confront them before the race. Gene and Jim go to a reception before the race and run into Aisha Clan-Clan . She is working as a waitress for the company catering the event. She tries to attack them but then her boss calls her out for not doing her job. She cowers at the thought of not being paid and backs off.

The race begins. They have to hit certain checkpoints. Gene decides to take the most dangerous route to the first checkpoint. The episode ends with a the Outlaw Star looking like it is about to get overwhelmed by a storm of debris.

Schitt's Creek 1.06

Wine and Roses

Johnny and Moira visit a fruit winery. Moira gets offered a job as the spokesperson for the winery. Johnny tries to help out but he gets kicked off the set of the commercial shoot. Moira can't remember her lines. Johnny has to come back to give her a pep talk.

David's heart is racing. Stevie takes him to see the only doctor in town, a veterinary. Alexis gets invited to a yoga class. She isn't going to go but Dave wants to go, he hopes it will help with his heart.

Thoughts

This was fun. It wasn't phenomenal but it was fun. I loved the ending.

Samurai Jack 5.07

XCVIII

Jack returns to the high mountain top where he lost his sword. He remembers how Aku destroyed the last portal to the past and how he tricked Jack into killing three harmless creatures.

Jack and Ashi get to the place thanks to a giant bird. They search for the sword but it is nowhere to be found. Jack meditates. Ashi waits. An army of orcs arrives ready to kill Jack. Ashi protects him. She kills the orcs and then has to fight her mother whom she also kills.

Jack experiences a mystical dream while he meditates. He makes tea. He finds balance. He is visited by the three gods who gave his father the magic sword in 3.11 (Birth of Evil). They zap him, just like they zapped his father, and his sword is returned to him.

Party Down 1.03

Pepper McMasters Singles Seminar

The Party Down crew works at a singles event for seniors. Ron is grossed out by seniors. Bruce, one of seniors, turns out to be someone with whom Constance once had a fling, 25-30 years earlier. Henry winds up smoking pot with Bruce and Constance in the men's room. Kyle bums a boner pill off of Bruce and puts it in Roman's drink. Casey decides she needs to get divorced and then makes out with Henry.

Thoughts

Marilu Henner plays the part of Pepper McMasters. I know her from lots of things but the first would of course be Taxi.

Ed Begley Jr. plays the part of Bruce. I know him from lots of things, most recently it would be Future Man.

This is an okay episode. I enjoyed it but it wasn't the best or the funniest. It doesn't compare to the previous one.
