Marcel walks out into the woods with Suzanne. He pulls out the gun he was given but he doesn't kill her. He lets her go and does his best to make it look like he killed her and buried her body. When he meets up with his friends they want to know where her wedding ring is.

Crémieux comes to see Bériot. He needs a favor. He learned from someone else that the school has a printing press. He wants to use it. Crémieux uses a bit of coercion to convince Bériot to consider helping him but at the same time Bériot seems interested in doing something. Lucienne is nervous about doing anything for Crémieux that might endanger them. Bériot promises her that he told Crémieux that he wasn't going to help him but that isn't true.

or The Traitor

Hortense comes to see Daniel in jail. He tells her that he wants a divorce. Hortense goes to Heinrich and tries to talk him into releasing Daniel. She insists that he not torture her husband. He agrees not to touch Daniel. Muller goes to see Daniel. He demands that Daniel tell him where Marcel is. Daniel tells him that he doesn't know and that he wouldn't tell him even if he did.

Raymond buys a farm for Marie and her sons. Things are still rocky between Raymond and Jeanine.

DeKervern gives Marchetti the results of his investigation. Marchetti rejects the conclusion that Raymond Schwartz is the murderer. Schwartz is a good example of Franco-German collaboration. Marchetti decides to hand the investigation over to someone younger.

or For the Sake of Love

Marcel finds out that Gustave ran away. He finds a phone and calls Daniel. He talks to Daniel and to Gustave. He promises to come see them that night.

Kurt returns but only briefly. He can't stay long. He asks Beriot to pass a message on to Lucienne to meet him at a place where they met before. Beriot doesn't tell him that he and Lucienne are planning to get married.

Heinrich breaks the bad news to Hortense. He is about to get shipped out to Minsk, unless he captures Marcel. She goes to visit Daniel. She sees Gustave and learns from him that Marcel will be there that night. She passes that information along to Heinrich.

Yvon is arrested by Marchetti's men after the pharmacist confirms that he was the one who shot the German officers. Marchetti tries interrogating him but Yvon won't even tell him his name. Muller finds out that Marchetti has a prisoner and quickly takes Yvon from Marchetti. He doesn't have any more luck than Marchetti did but he uses much more brutal tactics.

Hortense comes to see Heinrich while he is torturing Yvon. She is shocked but not by what she sees. Someone on the street, a beggar, called her a kraut's whore. That's what is bothering her.

The Germans are getting ready to execute 20 hotages, most of whom are communists. Daniel and Servier try negotiating with Kollwitz. They get him to agree to cut it down to 10 hotages if they pick the hostages to get executed.

Marchetti returns. He is brought in to run the French search for the shooters. He arrives when Hortense is getting ready to leave Muller's office. They exchange words briefly. Muller is amused by the circumstances.

The communists are getting ready to execute their plan. Yvon has a toothache. Marcel convinces him to come with him to a pharmacy to get something for it. Some German officers enter the pharmacy while they are waiting in line at the pharmacy. Yvon sees an opportunity and shoot the German officers. Yvon and Marcel take off running. Yvon convinces Marcel to hide in a cellar while he takes off to find another hiding place. Marcel spends the rest of the episode hiding in the cellar.

Lucienne decides to accept Jules offer of marriage but there is a snag. Her father is a devout Catholic and Jules was never baptized. Jules goes to the church to talk to the priest about getting baptized. The shooting in the pharmacy happens while he is in the church. The German soldiers won't let anyone leave. Jules helps an older man who gets knocked down by a German soldier. The man introduces himself. He is Lucienne's father.

Daniel finds out, from Madame Estabet, that Marcel stole the missing gun. He goes to Marcel and tries talking to him about it but Marcel refuses to listen. He takes his brother's warning seriously enough. He sees plain clothes policemen following him. He loses them. He tries warning his Communist comrades but they have moved up their time table and refuse to change their plans or lay low for a while.

Kurt has less than 24 hours before he gets shipped off to the Russian front. Lucienne doesn't know what to do. Kurt wants to see her that night but there is a celebration at the school that she has to help organize. She suspects that Beriot might have been the one to tell on Kurt.

Le choix des armes

or Choice of Weapons

Marcel is tasked with obtaining a gun for the communist cause. He works with Suzanne to make it happen. She puts him in touch with Madame Estabet who cleans the brothel that the German officers visit. Madame Estabet gives him the key to the service entrance. He uses it to sneak in and steal a German officer's gun while the officer is in bed with one of the prostitutes.

Sarah helps Daniel figure out that supplies are not reaching their destination. He goes to Servier who is resistant to moving too quickly to figure out what is going on. Daniel turns to DeKervern for help. DeKervern has been suspended but Larcher deputizes him to shake down the men whom he sees taking supplies.

Hortense is visiting Müller just down the hall from where Marcel, Suzanne, and all the other civilians who were rounded up are being held. Hortense had sex with Müller and on the way out she sees Marcel. She goes back and explains to Heinrich who Marcel is before leaving.

Müller interrogates Marcel and Suzanne. He asks her a lot more questions that him. He has serious doubts about her story. He winds up letting them go when Kollwitz comes to see him and wants to know what he's doing.

La Planque

or The Stakeout

The communists start to plan how best to hit the Germans. An expert is brought in to help them plan. He is fairly young. It is decided that they should shoot a German officer in front of the German headquarters in Villeneuve. Marcel and Suzanne will pretend to be lovers. They are given the job of staking out the plaza in front of the German headquarters.

Lucienne tells Kurt that she is pregnant. She goes to see a priest who advises her that she must not abort her pregnancy. She is at a loss for what to do. Marie Germain tries to help her out. She brings her to see Madame Morhange. The two women want to help her but DeKervern walks in as they making preparations to help her abort. He goes ballistic and refuses to let them go through with it. There is a new law making abortion illegal and DeKervern is worried about what might happen to himself and Judith if it was discovered that they helped Lucienne abort her pregnancy.

Daniel and Marcel Larcher find out that their father is dying. They go to see him. Their father has decided to leave everything to Daniel. Their father looks down on Marcel and has nothing good to say to him. Their father dies before they leave.

Raymond Schwartz gets backed into a corner. He is taking a loan from Albert Crémieux, the man who is selling him the concrete business. He could have borrowed the money from his father-in-law but he didn't want to do that. Caberni finds out about Schwartz's financing and gives Raymond a choice: give Caberni half the business or go to prison.

Le Temps des Secrets

or A Time for Secrets

Marcel, Suzanne and a couple of their compatriots break city hall in Essarts to steal ration tickets. They run off without the tickets, in a panic. Suzanne goes back to get them and gets caught by the police.

Kollwitz, the new German commander, tells Raymond Schwartz that he is cancelling all contracts with his sawmill. Schwartz has to scramble to recover. He talks to Jeanine, his wife. She suggests that he talk to Daniel Larcher, the mayor.
