Heroic! The Commander Dies
The Arcadia leaves Earth and heads further out into the solar system. Commander Kiruta is injured but insists that he wants to help in the upcoming fight with the Mazone. He has a talk with Captain Harlock and tells him about his past.
The Arcadia encounters the Mazone fleet near Jupiter. Captain Harlock ordered the Arcadia into the asteroid belt. The Mazone attack. The asteroids make it difficult for the Mazone battle cruisers to maneuver and many are destroyed.
The Mazone launch an all out assault on the Arcadia. Small Mazone ships break into the Arcadia's launch bay. Mazone troops exit their ships and spread throughout the the Arcadia. Commander Kiruta, Daiba, and Yattaran are assigned to guard the main computer room. They kill many waves of Mazone troops. Commander Kiruta puts himself in great danger and after killing many of the Mazone troops he is gunned down by the enemy.
The Mazone fleet surrounding the Arcadia is destroyed by a fluctuation in the magnetic field of Jupiter. The Mazone aboard the Arcadia are all killed by Captain Harlock and his crew. Captain Harlock and the others take Commander Kiruta to Deathshadow Island. There he dies.
Thoughts
The title of this episode kind of gave away part of the ending. I was a bit moved at the end of the episode but the impact might have been greater if not for the massive hint in the title.
I don't understand how it is that all the Mazone ships were destroyed by the magnetic fluctuation in the magnetic field surrounding Jupiter but the Arcadia more or less escaped unscathed.
Where was Deathshadow Island during the fight with the Mazone advance fleet?
This was a decent episode. Just three more episodes to go. It wasn't too surprising that Kiruta sacrificed himself/ It was kind of interesting to see how far he came since the show started.
