Orange Is the New Black 6.04

I'm the Talking Ass

Three correctional officers (Luschek, McCullough, Blake) start to work in the maximum security section of Litchfield. Luschek gets excited when he learns that there is a betting pool going for the prisoners.

Vause and Cabrera get moved to gen pop. Chapman, Flores, and Madison get moved to gen pop and wind up in the same block as Vause and Cabrera.

Nichols meets with her father and Michele Goldstein, his fiancée/lawyer. They try to talk her into signing a plea agreement that implicates Red as the one who murdered Piscatella. Nichols gets into an argument with her father and refuses to sign it.

Nichols get the backstory spotlight. The story flashes back to her bat mitzvah. Her parents were already divorced by then. They both try to control her. She snaps in the in front of the congregation and starts to ad lib her speech. Neither of her parents are happy with what she has to say.

Daya is hurting but doesn't want to go to see a doctor. She's got some oxycontin, that one of the other prisoners gave her. Flaca advises her not to take it. Aleida is trying to make ends meet on the outside. She gets talked into buying into an herb-a-life type sales business. She goes to see Daya. She tries to give Daya a pep talk but she comes on a bit strong. Daya balks at her mother's tone. Their time together gets cut short by one of the correctional officers. Daya takes the oxycontin towards the end of the episode.

Taystee meets with a public defender when she thought she was going to be taken to talk to the investigators once again. She learns that she has been charged with murder and that the authorities are antsy to wrap things up. She gets a message to Caputo who comes to see her. She asks him for help clearing her name.

Doggett, Coates, and Dixon head towards Hershey Park. Doggett has to disguise herself. They stop at a costume shop on the way there. They arrive at the amusement park and have a great day until on the way out of the park Coates and Doggett get insulted by a couple guys. They are ready to keep walking but Dixon stands up for them and slugs the guy who insulted them.

Nichols gets a chance to talk to Red while they both pretend to be on the phone with other people. The investigators question Red. They try to get her to talk but she sees through them.

Thoughts

Morello, Berlin, Cindy, and Suzanne are not in this episode. I think that at this point most of the characters who had speaking parts in the last season have been accounted for although there are still a number of characters that have yet to make an appearance. I am thinking of Soso, Murphy, Romano, and Ramos. There might be more.

This episode doesn't really have a cliffhanger.

I really like this episode. It might be my favorite of the season up to this point. I think its pretty clear now that the investigation isn't about to go away in the next episode or two. I fear that someone, most likely Red or Taystee, is going to get a lot of time added to their sentence. I don't think everything is going to go in the government's favor but I doubt that the inmates are all going to skate through without having their sentences lengthened.

I like the moment where Dixon stands up to the guys who insult Coates and Doggett. I’m worried that this moment might come back to cause them trouble.

Carol is in this episode. Most of her interactions are with Madison. She really puts Madison in her place on a couple occasions. There is no sign of Barb, Carol’s sister, in the present as of yet but I’m pretty sure that she is still in Litchfield.

Daya really seems to be in a downward spiral. I wonder if Mendoza is going to step in and try to help her at some point?

The moment where Aleida visits Daya got to me. It was very moving. I was similarly moved by the scene where Caputo visits Taystee. I don't know what he is going to do but I think he is going to do something to disrupt the government's attempt to frame the inmates who were in the pool room.
