Duel! The Queen vs. Harlock
The Mazone pursue the Arcadia. They attack Captain Harlock's ship recklessly. They launch themselves at it and crash into the Arcadia. The pirate ship sustains damage but survives the fight and destroys all the Mazone ships that were thrown at it.
Queen Lafresia's flag ship arrives on the scene. It is vastly bigger than the Arcadia. Daiba tries firing the main guns at the massive Mazone ship but the blasts don't do any damage to it. The flagship returns fire and causes more damage to the Arcadia.
Captain Harlock has almost everyone board a couple specially designed spaceships, bullet ships, which are then used to break into the flagship. Daiba and Kai find Queen Lafresia. Daiba throws a knife at the queen, hitting her in the chest, but it isn't the Queen. It is Cleo, commander of the royal guard. She dies laughing at their mistake.
Captain Harlock finds Queen Lafresia. She tries to use zombie Mazones. Harlock is overwhelmed but he calls out to his friend whose spirit inhabits the computer at the heart of the Arcadia. The Arcadia charges the flagship and breaks through to the chamber where Captain Harlock is fighting the zombie Mazones.
The zombie Mazones disappear but the fight between Lafresia and Harlock continues. They fight with swords that fire lasers. He defeats her. With his final blow he slices open her dress and she is stripped naked. She agrees to leave and the Mazone retreat but Captain Harlock has his doubts.
Thoughts
Now that they need to make the situation seem truly dire the Arcadia sustains heavy damage. Its kind of funny how much danger the Arcadia faced in the past 40 episodes without sustaining much in the way of damage. I can't figure out what made this fight any different.
Sometimes the next-to-last episode of a season or a series is better than the final one. I doubt that will be the case here. I found this episode to be remarkably uncompelling.
