Inuyasha 1.02

Seekers of the Sacred Jewel

Kagome learns more about the world in which she has found herself and the Shikon Jewel. The villagers are convinced that she is the reincanation of Kikyo, Kaede's older sister, who was killed 50 years ago. Kagome argues with Inuyasha, whom she can now control thanks to a magical magical necklace that Kaede placed on him. She tries to make friends with Inyasha but he is determined to get the Shikon Jewel.

Kagome goes for a walk outside the village. She is hoping to find the well that brought her back in time. She is captured by a gang of men who aren't from the village. They work for a very big man whose body is controlled by a demon that looks like a crow and is after the Shikon Jewel. Inuyasha rescues Kagome but the crow-like demon gets the Shikon Jewel and swallows it. Kagome tries to shoot it down with a bow and arrow, as Kikyo might have, but she is not as skilled with the bow and arrow as Kikyo.

The crow demon is shredded to pieces by Inuyasha but it reassembles itself. The Shikon Jewel is shattered when Kagome finally hits the demon crow with an arrow. The episode ends with Kagome finding a shard of the Shikon Jewel but she worries about what happened to the other shards.

Thoughts

Inuyasha is available on Hulu and on Netflix. I watched it on both services tonight. I noticed that the jewel is called the Shikon Jewel in the subtitles on Neflix whereas in the subtitles on Hulu it is referred to as the Sacred Jewel. The Netflix version is without commercials and includes some brief extras at the end of the episodes.

I will continue to watch for now. I'm not sure how long I will stick with Inuyasha. There are 167 episodes. I am curious about some of the characters who have yet to appear but are in the opening credits sequences.

The table is still being set. The show is still taking shape. There are all sorts of directions in which the show can go but I'm guessing that Kagome and Inuyasha (reluctantly in his case) will spend the next few episode (or maybe the rest of the show) looking for the shards of the Shikon Jewel.
