Un Village Français 4.05

La Mission
or The Mission

The Jewish people being held at the school learn that they are to be taken to Poland. Albert Crémieux gets increasingly agitated about what is going to happen to his wife and daughter. Raymond brings Marie some information that he copied from his wife's papers, about the work his business is doing for the Germans. Marie passes that information on to Victor, her contact with the Resistance. She tries to convince Victor that they need to try and rescue Anna and Hélène but he isn't buying it.

Servier chastises Daniel Larcher for hiding Sarah Meyers in his house. Daniel returns home empty handed, unable to see Sarah or do anything for her. He talks to Hortense about it. She puts together a suitcase of clothing for Sarah.

Marchetti decides to help Rita and her mother escape to Switzerland. Rita tries to tell him to forget it but he insists on doing it.

Marie comes up with a plan to get Hélène out of the school. Bériot helps her get to the school but then he gets arrested by the police under suspicion of having been with Crémieux on the night he took off running from the German soldiers. Marie dressed as a nurse, turns to Lucienne for help. Lucienne talks to a German soldier who was a friend of Kurt. He helps Marie get into the school.

Jules gets questioned by Loriot, one the of policemen. Jules' answers are evasive. Marchetti comes in. He doesn't have time for this. He flips a coin and based on the result decides to let Bériot go.

Marie gets Hélène out of the school but then her plan falls to pieces. She and Hélène take off running as the episode ends and while Anna watches helplessly in horror at what is happening.

Thoughts

I had a bad feeling about Marie's plan. It seemed incredibly risky. I don't see how things are going to change for the better in the next episode.

Sarah Meyer and Judith Morange are in this episode but play very small parts in it. Jeanine Schwartz sends Gustave back to live with his aunt and uncle, Daniel and Hortense

I'm not sure what to make of Marchetti. He has done some awful things but also seems to show some remorse for what he has done. It makes him a little more interesting but it doesn't make him a good person, just a slightly less evil person than he was before.

This was another very good episode but also a real downer. Nothing seems to be going right for the people of Villeneuve, Jewish or otherwise.
