Daffodil
Jackie is still worried about Grace, her eldest daughter. She doesn't know how to help her. That seems to bother Jackie.
Stephanie, a ten-year-old, comes in with her mother who has lupus. Her mother is in bad shape. Jackie does what she can to help Stephanie's mother. This includes sneaking her back into the ICU to see her mother. Jackie also gets her an extra supply of medicine for her mother.
Zoey continues to follow Jackie around and learn from her. She goes to dinner with Dr. O'Hara when Jackie declines. She makes some pointed remarks about Dr. O'Hara's attitude and then tells her that her father is in prison. After dinner she clotheslines a patient who is out of control.
Jackie helps a patient who had a stroke. His family can't seem to calm down. His wife doesn't appreciate Jackie's attitude when she tells them all to shut up.
Gloria plays her role as administrator quite strictly. Her attitude changes a bit after she accidentally tases herself with a Taser she found lying in a hallway.
Dr. Cooper gets dinner for himself and Eddie at Quizno's. Eddie isn't really in the mood for it but he doesn't know how to say no. Jackie runs into them eating in the back of the hospital pharmacy. She was there to see Eddie but has to think fast in order to avoid exposing their relationship.
The title of the episode comes from a card that Stephanie has. She is studying for a spelling test and has cards with words written on them. The cards inspire Jackie to try something with the man who has the stroke. He can't seem to speak. She write words on some cards for him to read.
Thoughts
This was a good episode. No one died. It was good for other reasons too. It was interesting to see characters interact who haven't really done so before, at least on camera.
